The title s no hype.
I only am giving this four stars because I was a little disappointed in the length of the book and I found it to be a little choppy in sections. The story within the story is Comstock. Make no mistake about it he is "The American Badass'. If there is a good side to the last thirteen or so years of constant battle and war (beyond ridding the human race of some world class s**t-bags) it is the appearance of guys like Comstock, Fury, Kyle, Luttrell et., al. These are the men who make you proud to be an American. The sacrifice and heart that they constantly display and act on are really in the category of super human.Comstock goes right from the 82nd to Delta Force. This is akin to a 15 year old pitching in a pony league all star game and then a year later shutting out the Yankee's in the 7th game of the World Series. This just does not happen and I'm not sure if any other human being has ever done this in the history of the military. Comstock is really humble and he does not play this angle up at all. This really is what makes him such an endearing lovable rogue. More importantly though is the obvious love and dedication that is always on display towards his colleagues and family. After reading this you are left with being a little depressed. Well at least most of us average human beings are because Comstock make you realize that most of us do not live up to our potential and we certainly don't rise to his level of commitment and near perfection. This book left me wanting two things. I'd like to sit down and have a few cocktails with Dale and hear more. And I would like to shake his hand and simply say thanks for all you have done for all of us.If you have been looking for a book about a real American hero don't look in the sports section. Just order this from Amazon and give it to that 16 or 17 year old kid who needs that little push.

Inspiring
If you are looking for an eloquent well written thought provoking book to sit around the coffee shop and discuss with your hipster friends this is probably not your read. Mr. Comstock is one motivated individual. If you are like me and think you too are a bit of a badass then of course you may think uh huh, when he makes a claim he gets his and can take yours too, but I often say similar things without having done what he has to back it up. I often think back to my time in the Army and wish I had accepted the invitation I got annually from the Special Forces to try out, but not Comstock. This guy does everything he can and then a little bit more.My son is finishing up high school and is not really ready for college so he is thinking about going Army with the goal of applying for the SF Q-course. I sent him this book as motivation and inspiration. I hope he gains the feeling I have after reading this book, and that is to give it your all, do your absolute best in hopes you are better than everyone else. To try and be superhuman.Mr. Comstock's idea of the way our PC society is slowly neutering our men is right in line with how I think. When I was at my first duty station we had a small contingent of Marines on base, that had taken over a bar on post and would run off any Army guys who dared stop in. Me and my buddy often went by looking for trouble. Enough that they often chose not to mix it up, but we could usually find a taker. After being hand delivered back to our unit by the MPs we were told to never go back and that fighting and violence would not be tolerated. I remember standing there thinking, "wait isn't that what I keep training for"? I believe in people being accountable for their own actions. I don't believe everyone needs to talk about their feelings and needing to psychoanalyze every bad thing that goes on in our lives. Sometimes you just need to move on, not dwell, and suck it up.My inspiration from this book is to fill my time with more productive activities, not pass on any opportunities, and create my own opportunities, all with a clear vision of my success. Thank you Dale Comstock for all you have done for this country. I hope your inspiration continues by putting another operator on the ground in your son and mine. Your warrior legend continues on.

Dale Comstock IS an American Badass
Dale Comstock is a man who has done it all. As one of the youngest soldiers to be selected for Delta Force, Comstock participated in operations around the world, including Operation: ACID GAMBIT, the famous hostage rescue mission to recover Kurt Muse from Modelo Prison. He also served as a Special Forces team sergeant and a paramilitary contractor in support of the Global War on Terrorism. A trained martial artist, former professional boxer, and a man with a Ph.D, Comstock's dossier reads straight out of a Hollywood action thriller.AMERICAN BADASS covers his life, starting from when he was a child and leading up to the time where he hangs up his guns for good. Throughout we see examples of his work ethic, which is the basis for his largely successful career. From Panama to Afghanistan and places unknown, we see Comstock's story in his own words: raw, unfiltered, and unapologetic. If you are looking for a book that provides details of Delta, this is not your book. Comstock is careful not to reveal much about the Unit. This is a story of a remarkable man, one that any supporter of the military can read and get behind. The prose can be a little rough in parts and there were some minor typos throughout, but that does not stop the book from being an enjoyable read. It is a brief study in what makes Comstock tick, and in turn is an example for what kind of man serves in such elite units.Critics will say that Comstock is self-aggrandizing, particularly with titling his autobiography AMERICAN BADASS. Given the trials and hardships he has endured and the accomplishments earned, he has every right to call himself a badass, because that is what he is. Definitely a recommended read!

Awful!
This book is dreadful do not buy it or even borrow it. If you are looking for any insight in to either the man himself or special forces then you are not going to find it here. The book is filled with very short descriptions of incidents none of which give any real depth to the man's story. Delta Force is a clandestine unit and I'm sure Dale Comstock did not want to give any operational details away which makes me wonder why he wrote the book in the first place because the anecdotes contained within are awful, most of which are a page or two long and just seem to be page fillers. It seems on the face of it that this book was written as a money earner for the author which he threw together with absolutely no thought. In summary DO NOT BUY!

ok
It was okay. I thought it was a bit short. I would've liked a lot more detail on some of his adventures.

Not a very good read
Poorly written. Format is awful. Chapters are 3-5 pages long, just telling stories about his career.
