Missing pages
I purchased this a couple months ago and didn’t have time to dive in until now. I downloaded the songs and the first song is missing the sheet music in the book. What’s really annoying is the book is like ten pages and now I’m concerned I’m missing other sheet music. Very disappointed. My book starts on page 3 and page 1-2 are ginseng Sullivan. One of the main reasons I bought the book.Update: I contacted the company and there were easy to deal with to get a new copy of the book. Updating from 1 to 3 stars since QA is an issue but at least they seem like decent people. :D

Wow! So much knowledge, so few ads. No school like the old school.
There's no school like the old school You know how nice it is to sit down and learn with a concise book, written by an expert, which lessons and examples recorded? All with NO pop ad, no Google tracking, not BS. You invest a small amount, you get a book and recordings that you own. It's great. Tony is a master and this book is an excellent guide into the world of fiddle tunes While I've been playing for 35 years, this is my first dive into fiddle tunes. Thank you Tony, you are the man! So sorry that Tony is stricken with injuries that impair his playing, but man, this is a great insight into the mind of a master.

Not for the uninitiated
This is clearly for intermediate to advanced players. I've just done the 1st lesson so far, but he doesn't really explain much about how to pay the runs presented in the book and CD - more of a here it is, play it. That said, I do like this instruction package because it has the actual transcription rather than just tabs and chords. We found a series of U-Tube videos where he sort of re-does these lessons with some more detailed descriptions of how to play the lesson songs and it helps to see how he manages both hands vs. just hearing it from the CD.

nice companion to Tony's Choice: Licks, Kickoffs, and Solos.
I'm repeating what I said for Tony's Choice: Licks Kickoffs and Solos - they cover much of the same territory, and it makes sense to purchase both of them if you can. This is a useful aid for anyone studying bluegrass guitar. Tony is certainly one of the leading bluegrass guitarists and has been for many years, so this provides some insight into his style. It would be nice to have a more in-depth look, but you take what you can get!

Very accurate
Excellent for learning Tonys songs. Tab is nice.

Very good for practical application
Very good for the intermediate flat picker, because he will show a fairly basic version of a tune and then show different licks to insert to spice up the lick. A very good resource if you are learning to build bluegrass solos.

This book/CD is perfect for the beginning flatpicker
This book/CD is perfect for the beginning flatpicker. It is perhaps not appropriate for a rank beginner, but the main arrangements are fairly straight forward. Rice also offers a number of alternative lines to each song that are more challenging and really embellish the song.

Confusing set up and pages seem to be missing
Appears to be a good concept and a good book but the very first song listed, Ginseng Sullivan, has no tabs and only appears as a short audio blurb on audio. Numbering of pages starts at page 4.Ginseng Sullivan is one of the most important songs but is in fact not covered....very misleading.Appears poorly set up...if not for these things I would have gave it 5 stars.Contacted company and never even responded......

A Good Aid to Learning Bluegrass.
Tony Rice was an incredible guitarist, but he was also a good teacher. His solos are presented in an easy to follow method book, but included is also an excellent audio version of each song. A code is given which you enter on the Hal Leonard website and you can access the demos and explanations of each song by Tony. Really a great feature to help understand how to play each song.

Most Excellent Book!
I don't do many review's but this book rates a few words. For one thing it's so thin! only 22 pages. Unimpressed? I was a bit... but; I will be very surprised if I get to theend in my lifetime. Simply put; if you can play these tunes with the fluency and articulationof Tony I look forward to seeing you at Merlefest! This is as close as you can get to being on the porch with the man himself. Tony present's thematerial in a wonderful self-effacing way. He (1) breaks the tunes down as far as they will go. (2) describes in-depth exactly what he is doing. (3) you have a complete transcription in frontof you (4) You still won't be able to sound like Tony!! (5) You will be a better player from just trying to...

Accurate Tabs
Clear and accurate tabs in all songs. In particular I was looking for toneys version of Jerusalem Ridge! He plays it in the 5 th position on his recordings and here it is “ as advertised “Having the downloaded voice helps but it would be best with a video of tony playing itGood purchase!
