What is the gel made of? ie the Chemical. Is it toxic to dogs if it leaks?

My puppy just tore the mat apart and the foam bits and the gel were everywhere.  I freaked out because the term "non-toxic" wasn't enough for me.  I called the poison hotline (ASPCA) and they reassured me that because of my dogs size and the ingredients (home grown USA), that at the very most, he might experience some loose stool or vomiting.  Not saying that if your dog ingest this you should not contact your vet, but I thought I would write this answer to ease someone else going through the same process.  FYI-the post mentioning the mat being toxic was made a couple years ago, so I'm not sure if they changed the ingredients-but for reference I purchased mine summer of 2016

Hi, the listing shows mat as SM? But description shows it a good and large? Is this mat a lg. one? I want to order it. Thanks

The large is about 36 inches by 20 inches, which fit my long, 65-pound dog perfectly, since to be cool, the important thing is to get the body on the mat, not the head or tail. When she lies on her side, her legs also hang part way off the mat, but this too is fine. Get a size large enough so that your dog's torso will fit on the mat. She still loves this, and it still loves how cool it is, even though the weather is getting cooler.

can I have my dog on this pad for more then 8 hous in his kennel on a flight?

I know it sounds unbelievable but pets are put in the cargo hold that humans often try to stowaway in and the humans end up with hypothermia and dying from lack of oxygen these cargo holds are meant for luggage they become extremely cold even flying to one places and there is no oxygen pumped in there and believe it or not when you're up in the plane oxygen has to be pumped in for the humans unless your dog doesn't require oxygen don't send your dog on an 8-hour flight unless it's in your lap please don't send anything on an 8-hour flight in a cargo hold that lives not even the plant! I know it sounds like it's not true but it is absolutely true oxygen and heat are things that are not in the cargo hold that they put these animals and even though they've been sued for it unless your dog is an award-winning Blue ribbon did the judge will believe is worth more than $35 that's the life of a dog in a court against an airplane company that has more lawyers than you have hair in your shower you are not going to get your dog back in the same shape frequently animals die if people die in cargo hold and no I'm not talking about wheel well I'm talking about where they put your dog anybody that's ever worked for an airplane knows not to put any living thing with the luggage and the animals and they say oh yeah we check on them yeah before the flight starts and after the see what's dead and alive I'm sorry but you should never put an animal on a plane unless it's tucked under your seat or specially delivered through a company with special accommodations for living things otherwise you might as well go out and buy another dog because if your dog ends up dead gone brain dead because of lack of oxygen losing its feet toes or body parts tail from frostbite you only got to get $35 if you can afford an attorney to sue cuz that's all they think the life of your dog is for

Can this be used outside with cats?  We take care of a feral colony and the heat takes a terrible toll on them.

The mat has a protective coating, like a heavy grade plastic. The gels are soft, but I wouldn't put it anywhere in the direct sun, as long as it's covered it should be fine, it took my boys a little while to get used to the feeling but they LOVE it now. It does warm up with body heat over time but cools off again after they move off of it, hope this helps
