Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Jiffy Garment Steamer with Plastic Steam Head, 120 Volt, Beige

This review is for us guys who now do the laundry. Following a few swear words, mishaps and ups and downs with the ironing board and iron I saw the "little steamer" advertised. This looked like my salvation, so I ordered the little rascal. It worked surprisingly great and the ironing board found its way into the basement (the steam iron is still up on a shelf in the laundry room.) Recently my little steamer started spurting hot water and steam all over, so was time to regroup and read all the internet reviews about steam pressing. I ordered the "Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment Steamer from Amazon.com. I had my four pair of golf shorts and 4 polo shirts, from my four days of golf, available when the steamer arrived. I filled the water container with distilled water, turned it on and in less time than my little steamer was perking, steam was pumping out, and no spurting of hot steam water. My shorts and shirts were on hanger's right out of the dryer, so ready for the chore of pressing out wrinkles and folds, but hold on, this was actually fun and no chore. The wrinkles seemed to melt away with all the hot steam and each shirt was done in about 2 minutes. I had the shorts hung by the waist band so was simple to steam out any wrinkles and looked better than my ironing used to look. My "ironing" duties were completed in less than 30 minutes. Now the question for you guys who also have the ironing duties, would you rather spend more time on the golf course or in the laundry room? Also, as I said before, it is actually enjoyable to see the results in a short period of time and "no hassles" with an ironing board, lol. For the new-comers, yes, the little steamer works great, but would I switch back? - can I drive the ball 300 yards? - Answer is no. The occassional spurting of hot water from the little steamer was of course a nuisance, but tolerable, and naturally it could not be turned upside down. I now steam clothing from the inside, both the shirts and pants. With the legs hanging down it is easy to insert the steam nozzle and run it up and down. I might add this nozzle gets very hot, so be cautious. Also, the max for the little steamer was about 20 or 30 minutes and with my Jiffy Steamer, an hour is no problem. I might add I am 82 years of age, so you young'uns should easily outperform me. I steamed our mattress last week, so bye-bye any bedbugs. Feel like getting on the good side of your "significant other"? - steam some of her clothes and put a smile on her face (I now also steam my wife's PJ's so she looks gorgeous morning, noon and night.) So there you have it guys, would you rather sweat and swear over the ironing board, or sing along with your favorite CD. Also have extra time now on the golf course, wearing wrinkle-free golf clothes? Oh, would I recommend this Jiffy steamer? - as we say out here - "Yes, yes, yes, in a NY second." I spent many hours researching for the right garment steamer. I finally decided on the Jiffy® J-2000 Garment Steamer and was about to order from Costco online for $124.99, because their price was the best. But then I read the reviews posted here for the Jiffy® J-2000M Steamer, and saw the tips and recommendations for the metal head and Steamboard. Instead I ordered the J-2000M (metal head model), and the shorter Steamboard (not the Jiffy board) for $39.99. I received them sooner than expected. When I opened the box, I was totally impressed with the high quality of the steamer and components. It was easy to unpack and super easy to assemble the components (hose, pole, etc.). It took about 5 minutes to set up the steamer from open box. The Steamboard includes an over-the-door bracket that is easily attached with 3 screws, aligned to pre-drilled holes on board. The included Steamer Hanger is top quality. I hung the Steamboard over a door, and was steaming right away within 10 minutes from opening the box! This steamer is very sturdy, well built, and operation is very quiet. The metal head has a large wooden handle that stays cool, so you will not feel the heat from the hose. The unit can be rolled in any direction without the swivel casters dragging. The removable water tank has a wide mouth, is easy to fill, and water heats to steam-ready in about 1-2 minutes. This unit gives constant steam, is easy to use and takes out wrinkles instantly. It takes less than half the time an iron would take. Removing wrinkles from tight areas (i.e. buttons, sleeves) is now a breeze. It does a great job on all types of material, from delicate, silk, blouses, t-shirts, sweat shirts, even jeans! The metal head with a Steamboard make a great team. Together they function like an iron and steamer, because a higher concentration of steam can be directed through material instead of around it, making it faster and easier to remove even the toughest wrinkles. YOU CAN EVEN MAKE CREASES USING BOTH METAL HEAD AND STEAMBOARD. Note that when applying a crease, pressing down while holding item in place vertically on a Steamboard can be a little more challenging than ironing horizontally, so it may take a little practice. I am super pleased with the purchase of this steamer. I spent more $$$ than originally intended (J-2000 model with plastic head), but the added convenience and time saved makes it worth every cent. I highly recommend this steamer (with metal head) and a Steamboard. If you are looking for a quality garment steamer, this is it!

Works great, lightweight and doesn’t take up A lot of room. Super easy to use and well made. I love mine and bought then as gifts for my sons who refuse to iron.

About 3 months ago, I developed the most painful tendonitis in my elbow. It was hard to bend my arm up and down without wincing in pain. I went to my doctor who diagnosed tennis elbow caused by poor positioning while using the computer. I was told not to do any heavy lifting with my dominant arm, including ironing. Eventually, I had a big pile of ironing in the laundry room and found there were items I wanted to wear but couldn't as they were so wrinkled. That's when I decided to invest in a steamer. I read a lot of product reviews on Amazon and a couple of other sites and found that the most consistently, highly-rated steamer by consumers was this Jiffy Steamer J-2000. It was easy to assemble from the box and I was up and running in 10 minutes. The Jiffy J-2000 makes a lot of steam. The nozzle gets really hot and the steam can really cause serious burns if you are not careful. There is a metal bolt on the base unit that is like touching a hot stove if you accidentally brush against it. Be careful if you have small children or pets around while using it. As for the wrinkle removal, I am quite happy with the results and I am a real stickler for neatness in my clothing. Obviously, it works best on knit fabrics or silks and polyesters. But I got acceptable results on linen and cotton. You will not get the crisp look of a freshly ironed cotton shirt, but most people are wearing much more casual clothes today for which the steamer is fine. I have been using my non-dominate arm to do most of the work for now and so I imagine that I will get even better results once I can use my right arm again. As I stated earlier, the steam is quite hot and it is easy to burn your fingers if you are not careful. I remembered that I had a heat resistent glove that came with my hair curler and so I wear that on the hand that is holding the fabric taut while I steam. That helps a lot! I find it works the best to hold the fabric tight while slowly pulling the steam head down the fabric from the wrong side of the garment. You get much better results with tension than when you just point the nozzle at the garment and expect the wrinkles to just fall out. I would highly recommend that the Jiffy company seriously consider enclosing one heat resistant glove in the box with the steamer. It's a real burn saver for the fingers. Amazon sells the one I got with my Enzo curling iron ENZO MILANO Heat Resistant Glove Black (1 Glove) for about $18. Definitely consider this investment if you use your steamer a lot. It's thin enough to use your fingers with dexterity. Sally Hansen also sells a cheaper glove, but I don't know just how heat resistant it is. Sally Heat Resistant Glove I highly recommend this model. While not perfect, it's definitely changed the way I do laundry for the better and it's really great for those last minute touch ups for a special occasion outfit.

Never thought I’d be someone who loves their steamer this much but I do! I originally bought it to steam my Indian wedding outfits. Ironing them can be a pain/impossible with the amount of fabric and heavy embroidery. I had every intention of either leaving it at my mom’s house or returning it after the wedding but I couldn’t! I’ve never been a fan of handheld steamers since they don’t really work but this thing is amazing! Like others have said, it won’t make hard creases in your clothes if you want that but it is very good at removing wrinkles from clothes. Since purchasing it I’ve used it on everyday clothes, Indian suits, and even my husband’s shirts, pants, and suits. It’s worked great for our needs! Haven’t had to pull out the iron in months. The steamer takes a minute or two to heat up. It will make a bubbling noise when water in the tank gets too low to create a constant steam. I usually refill it when it’s about half empty. It works best if you hang the clothing item against a surface then press the head of the steamer gently against the clothes. I bought a hanging steam mat also to put against the door and prevent damage from the steam. For longer clothes I will hang it from the top of thecloset door because the lower the steam hose is, the less steam comes out. It’s much better it it’s higher. It’s a little pricy but definitely worth it! It’s made life much easier. I actually miss it when I don’t have access to it like when we travel and need to dewrinkle our clothes.

I've used portable steamers for years and read a lot of reviews about different floor standing models before purchasing this one. This steamer is easy to assemble, heats up quickly, holds about 3/4 of a gallon worth of water, has a well insulated handle, pumps out steam in a steady flow and pretty much does everything you'd expect a quality steamer to do. Construction is excellent and even the plastic head is made from a nice heavy plastic. If you'd prefer a metal head, one is available from Amazon. The instructions are brief, to the point and complete and as long as you follow them, you'll get great results. Here's what I mean: 1. getting wrinkles out not only depends on steam but also touching the head directly to the cloth 2. if you buy this expecting to generate nice sharp creases in trousers, you'll be disappointed ... UNLESS you buy or make a steaming board. However, if you are a "razor sharp" crease person, use an iron. 3. even though you can use tap water, based on past experience, I recommend that you don't. Gallon bottles of distilled water are cheap at the grocery store and you won't have to use the recommended cleaner to cleanse the heating element and thermostat probe. If you do intend to use tap water, buy a bottle of the system cleaner for 6 bucks ... it's easy to use. I wear business suits daily and dry cleaning costs a fortune. Yes, you still need to dry clean to keep them fresh, but I can usually wear a suit two or three times before cleaning (depending on weather) and this steamer makes easy work out of taking out wrinkles, even the stubborn ones in the crotch, seat and coat back. Most of my suits are "permanently creased" by my tailor, so steaming wrinkles still leaves me with pretty sharp creases. Want to touch up a wash-and-wear shirt that sat in the dryer to long? This is a fast and easy way to make the shirt look great. Everybody has their own preference, but for me this is much easier than ironing. My wife uses it on very delicate stuff without problems. All-in-all, a great little tool for helping you look sharp. I wouldn't trade mine in.

I had high expectations for this device but have been very disappointed. It is slow to get to "maximum steam" (not in 1 minute as they claim) and the steam output is marginally higher than a hand steamer but not impressive. Granted this steamer has a larger head so the steamer makes a wider path but that is about it. More importantly the steam output is not sufficient to remove difficult wrinkles or wrinkles from heavy materials. The steamer is of average build quality but sadly the hangar rod comes in 3, very difficult to store, pieces (instead of a much more sensible and useful telescoping rod). It is claimed that the steam hose is 5.5 feet - maybe it is - but all I can say is that for someone of any height (6 ft. in my case) it does not reach any height which makes steaming a comfortable process. They market a Steamboard which they clearly show attached to the top of a closet door. Putting aside the fact that you may not wish to ruin your closet door the hose on this machine would NEVER reach the top of any door (except a dog door). Likewise the top of the rod does not allow you to hang an garment at a height you could steam without bending over. Moreover since the hose is not insulated you have to be careful when going through your toe-touching exercises, or when on your knees, to steam clothes that the hose does not come in contact with your skin. As best I can tell this is a machine for people who don't want to keep refilling the hand models. With its reservoir tank there is adequate water storage for most any steaming session. Other than that it offers nothing - except a much higher price tag. It really isn't worth the money Follow-up: Spoke with company and they could not have been less helpful; were ever so pleased with themselves and; claimed they have been making this item "since the 40"s and there have been no problems". (The logic apparently being that as long as the product has been on the market for a long time then it must be a high quality item. I guess the makers of Spam could claim the same thing but like this product no one would really claim Spam to be a quality item.) When I asked them why they show photos of people hanging things on door frames and using the machine which has only a 5.5 ft. cord the woman told me no one has any problem with that and she has done that for 15 years. So I guess everyone at Jiffy has door frames at 5.5 to 6 feet high.

My wife and I are completely renovating her family home. We replaced all the curtains in every room. When we hung the new ones we were more than a little dismayed to discover how wrinkled they all were. Thousands of dollars of custom curtains that looked terrible. What to do? Research uncovered almost universally that the Jiffy J-2000 Garment Steamer was the best choice for curtains. Fill it with distilled water and go to work. One fill lasts well over an hour. Comparing that with any hand held steamer that would need constant refilling (most estimates are 2 fills per panel) and I got worn out just thinking about it. This thing is industrial strength, built to last, made in the USA. It does and wonderful job, made short work of our curtain project. Sofas, upholstered chairs, mattresses, not to mention clothes are all on the menu. The possibilities are endless.

Let's start off by saying I hate ironing. This steamer had been on my wishlist for awhile due to the price and also the size. I really wanted to make sure that I would get the use out of it to justify it. If you're thinking about, all I can say is: Buy It. This is a professional steamer that I keep near my closet. It does a fantastic job, it heats up quickly and smooths out clothing almost immediately. It works well on all types of materials. The thicker the material the longer it will take to steam. Dress shirts and pants are done within minutes. I have now had this for years and I use it weekly. I have since recommended this product to everyone I know.

I’ve used more inexpensive steamers before and while those steamers had various attachments for the head, like a clip to hold the clothing against the head of the steamer, with this steamer it produces steam so well I don’t notice the missing attachments at all. I did purchase a hanging door pad to be able to press up against a flat surface while steaming, but thus far I’ve been able to steam out even serious creases in shirts just by using the wand on the shirts while they hang from the attached metal hook of the steamer. If you don’t steam clothing every time you do laundry I don’t know if I could justify the expense, but if you are steaming regularly then you won’t go wrong with this steamer.
