For example, keeping it inside your lunch box, or cooler bag, and not leaving it under direct sunlight will help. Using it will pre-chilled food will help, because the strength of the pack will not be weakened to initially cool the food temperature. Because you fill the pack with water, it will not last any shorter than normal ice. Actually the polymer inside will EXTEND the period and at the same time will prevent the water from LEAKING and MELTING, this way it will keep your food nice and DRY. I sometimes use ice blocks on my face. They melt in a minute or two. When I use this pack, I can't hold it long enough to see any change, it stays like I've just taken it out of the freezer. I even often run it under water to warm it up a bit. I have left it out overnight and in the morning it was not rock solid (which I didn't expect it to be), but it was still cold.
