Center Drill Bit

I just received my order and opened the case that the drill bits are in. They appear to be well made and the spring action is smooth with no hint of binding. I purchased this set instead of similar sets because it came with extra drill bit. I have some European hinges to install on a cabinet that I made, but unfortunately I haven't received all of the other items that I ordered that will allow me to use these bits, (the other items are not sold by this seller), but I did drill a few test holes in some brackets that I have that have various size holes in them, and every drill bit I used worked flawlessly. Hopefully I can update this review when I receive the other parts and the hinges are installed in the cabinet. Update: I completed the cabinet so I am able to give a more detailed review of these self-centering drill bits. I only used one size as that is all I needed, and although they do drill a self-centered hole, the chrome chipped and started to peel on the bit I was using. It's not too bad,and it doesn't affect the drill bit any, but the chipping may get worse with time. I neglected to mention that the case these bits come in is cheap plastic with a foam liner that has cutouts for the drill bits. The cutouts in the foam liner makes the liner weak and flimsy, so I tried to make my own. Unfortunately there isn't enough room in the case to achieve any different results, so I made a wood two level storage box with a hinged lid that includes a storage area for the extra drill bits and Allen wrench that was included. The original storage box does not provide any storage for the extra bits, but it does for the Allen wrench. Since it's the self-centering drill bits that you're actually paying for, the storage box is a throwaway item, especially since it's not recyclable.

Ordered these to drill alot of holes on a couple piano hinges I was installing on a storage bench I had made for our kitchen. They worked excellent except one little quirk. The spring loaded sleeve wouldn't always slide back down in place. That's the only reason for 4 stars. I would have to clean and adjust it back down with my fingers after each hole. Other than that these worked exceptionally. I had to drill around 100 holes and only had two that ended up off center which I attribute to user error and not a fault of the product itself. I would recommend these if your doing something like I had to do especially for the price. When I looked locally the bits were around 10 bucks each. So this in my opinion was definitely worth it. They seem well made other than the weak spring. Although I can't attest to how they would hold up to hard everyday use. I saw several reviews saying the bits would break so I tried to be gentle and had no problems. Overall I'm fairly happy with these.

I have used these so many times! I bought these 5 years ago for my working business. They are excellent for centering holes for hinges. But there are many times you will use them. I just used them a few days ago to center holes for casters. They self-center and also pre-drill for the screw. I think every woodworker should have a set of these in their shop. Comes with a variety of sizes. They are easy to use and have been durable for 5 years now! It's much faster to use these instead of dealing with a centering punch and pre-drilling or marking and messing around.

I ordered the following item from Amazon on June 6th, 2019 and received them June 8th. Werkzeug Self Centering Hinge Tapper Core Drill Bit Set for Woodworking, Adjustable Door Window Drill Bits with 1 Hex Key & 8 Replacement Drill Bits (5/64” - 1/4"), 16 Pieces Looking them over they appeared to be well manufactured and of good quality. This is not something I use every day but when I need a hole properly placed this is what I use. Two days later it was time to give them a try. When I removed the 5/64” bit the drill bit fell out. I put it back in and took the Allen Wrench they supplied and went to tighten the set screw. The set screw would not budge and in fact twisted the Allen Wrench. I sent an email to the customer service department of Werkzeug which the address was found in a “Thank You” card enclosed with their product. I simply stated my problem and hoped for a response. When I opened my email the following morning a reply was waiting. This is what I received… Hi Jim, Have a nice day! Thanks for shop in our store.
