This product really saved me last summer when both of my horses got a horrible skin condition from using a “ So Called “ All Natural fly spray . I usually make my own or use Equiderma brand which is also another great company . At any rate It was a super hot summer 2025 so I was hosing my horses down with cold water almost daily and then spraying them done w this fly spray . Long story short both horses lost a lot of their fur and their skin became very red , swollen and inflamed . It looked like rain rot but way worse . It was really bad and scary not knowing what the cause was . I was able to figure out the issue when my sister had the very same issue with her horses from using the Fly Bye so be careful with Fly Bye brand fly spray . It’s not all an all natural Fly spray as touted . Thank God I found the Coat Defense products here on Amazon !! I first used the Coat Defense spot Drying Paste which worked extremely quickly like the next day I found a huge difference in healing. I also used the powder by Coat Defense as a preventative to help keep the skin /fur dry and prevent the issue from spreading which this particular condition liked to do . This stuff is amazing ! I have recommended this product to all of my horsey friends and always keep it on hand for emergency use . Another product I have just recently used from this same company is their Horse shampoo . I bought it for myself because the ingredients are so clean …better than most people shampoos. I have only used it once but I really liked it . Didn’t need conditioner afterwards . All of the products smell amazing too. I can’t recommend this product line enough !

Best equine product out there hands down. The paste fixed my geldings chronic scratches/keratitis. And it's so easy to use! I cleaned his legs gently with chorohexidine the first time and then caked this on and every time it dried or got flakey added another layer of it. Once in a while I'd gently wash it off and be flabbergasted by the results. Absolutely a staple in my barn.

Got scratches? Buy this! I'm been trying for 6 weeks to heal my Gypsy- cross scratches on his lower leg. ( Hiding in his feather) I've tried multiple things, but it was always one step forward 2 steps back. Until out of frustration I opened my jar of the paste that I already had and wow, first day, great improvement, it took the redness away. My horse was no longer using his other leg to scratch the itch Next day, looked darker, no bright pink skin, no sign of inflammation. Now a week in, his hair is returning. Please do not stop making this!!! Gypsy's are prone to this problem. I never will go without. I plan to use the powder (which is so AWESOME) as maintenance and going to shoot for washing his lower legs weekly with medicated spray on shampoo ( I'm told you should make sure the feather is dried well afterwards ( not let drip dry) to avoid moisture setting in the area.

This product came highly recommended to me by fellow horse owners. It seems like you always find new scratches or scrapes on your horse, and this is such a good coating product to protect it from dirt and insects while it heals. They must have in your barn.

This stuff has been so helpful for all the summer cuts and itchy patches rubbed raw from bug bites! It’s a tiny bit minty-smelling and my mare lets out a big sigh sometimes when I use it :) Beware though—I used it on a lower leg wound once and it made proud flesh instead of healing. Maybe that’s just my dumb a$$ lol but I still love this stuff

This is incredible stuff!! My horse had a wound which resulted in swelling in his leg. I put it on his leg and the swelling had gone down overnight and was gone in 2 days!! My boy has sensitive skin and this didn't bother him at all. I wish the container was a little bigger but I will absolutely buy again!

Works wonders, get the bigger size

This is a wonderful product. Works very well for mild abrasions, scrapes, pastern dermatitis, or irritation. Only gripe is it dries extremely quickly and will end up coated all over your hands vs the horse. Applies better if you have lightly damp skin or hair first, especially on areas that have a fair amount of hair cover. I only took one star off because the price is outrageous considering the ingredients and size. I am all for using natural, minimal products, but the markup on this is absurd. Should be half the price. Considering making my own version because of costs.
