NOT WORTH A DIME.
Just got this yesterday and have not worn it yet. I give it only 3 stars because the "ice packs" are hard as ROCKS. It says "gel"? they are solid and lumpy and hard. I will probably replace them with another form of cooking gel pack, like others have done. The vest itself is why I purchased this. It is mesh, very light and has large pockets, is adjustable on the sides. I will also remove the strap clips and sew it to fit. I am unlikely to ever use the brick hard lumpy "gel" packs. Having hard lumpy things on my back and chest does not appeal to me. The jacket was the cheapest one I could find that would suit me and be able to use whatever I want as the cooling agent. These pocketed vests are stupid expensive. Later: put one in freezer, one in fridge for over an hour. Both were the same degree of cold (and still hard as brick). I then put a very old thera ice pack in another pocket and set the vest in sun on a very COOL day , not even 75 yet). Within MINUTES both of the polargel BRICKS were WARM. The thera gel pack is still ice cold. Perhaps the "gel" packs (loose term for sure since they are rocks) are faulty? Good thing I only bought this for the pocketed vest. These "gel" bricks are WORTHLESS and did not stay even cool for 10 minutes. Don't waste your money unless you plan to do what I will, and replace the bricks with a real ice gel.

I only wish I had bought one sooner!
This cooling vest is excellent for my work out session when the gym is over 73°. I am a heart patient and I cannotRegulate heat. I find this item extremely helpful both while exercising indoors and while attending seated eventWhere the heat is too much. In combination with a Ryobi cordless fan , I am able to attend events and even visitWith friends who cannot adjust the room temperature. It is light weight and very comfortable. Unfortunately it isOnly one size and portly persons may not find the side straps adjust enough. However for the price and designYour home sewn modification would be worth the purchase. The front zipper stops below my bust and the ice packsAre resting on my abdomen and back very effectively. I find it is perfect for the two hours I require. I have not worn it longer yet.I chill the 4 packs in the fridge or briefly in the freezer, store it in a small ice chest with some ice and when I arrive at my destinationIt is perfect. I found the ice water chilling method less effective. I live in a hot area and if I did not have car A/C , this would be usefulFor driving also as it does not interfere with a seat belt or hurt against the back of the seat. I will be wearing it to a convention centerAnd I expect my enjoyment and length of stay will be greatly increased. I am not an elderly person nor very plump so itMay be too cold or not cold enough dependent on your own body mass. I only regret I didn't think of this sooner!I met some one with MS who uses an ice vest successfully ( another style unknown to me) and that is how I learned about the idea. Also the photo shows a shirtless man. Uh, no. I wear a bra and a t-shirt with this, although it is nylon , it might notFeel nice on my skin and certainly would not provide coverage!

love it so far on day 1
i just got this tonight - first impression - the instructions that come with the package say to cool packets in the fridge for two hours before wearing, which immediately seemed odd to me. i ignored those instructions and put the packs in the freezer for two hours. now i look at the amazon ad and see that the instructions online say to put them in the freezer. so they have to fix the instructions they send out to people. the vest is crudely made in a way, but..who cares? it gets the job done and looks good on me. at first i thought it was too tight on me, then noticed that there are three adjustable side straps on each side - which is great because we all have different fat distribution, so you can customize this to your body and if you gain or lose weight, it doesn't matter. i also thought the pockets to put the ice packs in were too small for the ice packs, but they're not, they fit perfectly, you just have to put in the ice packs slowly and carefully. i am wearing this over my dress in my apartment and it's basically like having ice all around your chest, which is awesome. so far i like this. affordable way to cool down. update: i also just tried evaporative cooling vests, no ice involved in those, you just soak them in water basically. they work too but i dont like them so far as well as this, and wearing those is like sitting around in a wet bathing suit (i'm a woman, so know what it's like to have the wet bathing suit cover my chest). i may keep that one for the beach, but so far i like this one better. haven't tested this ice one outside yet but inside my apartment it was great. i will update as my experience with these vests grows.

it was great. I was sad that it didn't stay cold ...
It fit me! I am 5'4". I was afraid it would be too big. But because it is adjustable, it was great. I was sad that it didn't stay cold for a couple of hours. I kept it in the freezer overnight and it was frozen when I put the packets in the vest. It stayed cold for 1 hour, but, I have MS and had to go down to the horses for over and hour. By the time I left, it wasn't even cold anymore. I bought it because I thought it would stay cold and wouldn't get me wet like the ones with frozen water in them. I have a cooling vest that you have to soak in water, but that gets me dripping wet. I'm sad this didn't work.

Vest is good. Cool packs don't work.
I bought this vest because I am a menopausal women who can not sleep at night because of hot flashes and was looking for a solution. According to other customer reviews, I was not expecting much from the cool packs and, as expected, they hardly cooled at all and did not stay cool for long. But I wanted the vest. It is mediocre quality, but it serves its function - to hold 4 cool packs. I replaced the cool packs that came with the product with igloo ice packs (I only use one or two of the back pockets most of the time). This works great and lasts most of the night. So generally I am happy with my improvised function and can sleep better at night, which is the bottom line for me.
