Helping Children with Autism Learn
Excellent sourcebook for educators and parents. The text is organized so you can go to specific chapters that apply to your needs without having to read from beginning to end. However, I do recommend reading the entire text. Siegel explains current theories on the origins of autism and addresses the validity of "possible causes" that have been floating around. For a teacher, the heart of the book are the heaps of methods to use with students. For parents, it is a breath of fresh aire. Siegel's writing style is very reassuring and is packed with her clinical experiences and research. After reading this book you will certainly be better prepared to advocate for your child's treatment needs.

Helping Children with Autism Learn is a great tool for helping families.
Helping Children with Autism Learn: Treatment Approaches for Parents by Bryna Siegel is a great book that helped my family and me learn to deal with the fact that our son was Autistic. I think reading about how you can help your child can be empowering. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Most useful book for understanding and selecting ASD methods for your child
Presenting Autism Spectrum as a learning disablility.Explaining each aspect of the disability and concrete suggestions for how to treat it; and then following up byexplaining several programs and treatments was particularly useful.I agree that more than one type of treatment may be useful for the same child at different stages of his life.

Excellent resource
I purchased this book on the recommendation of a pediatric neuropsychologist. As a parent and teacher of students in the autism spectrum, I am very glad that I did. It has been an excellent resource with fully researched information. Clear, honest, and fascinating to read.

Excellent
The book is required for a class I'm taking for an endorsement to my teaching certificate in Autism. It is an in-depth study of ASD written in a reader-friendly format.

Best professional book for treating Autism
This book is more practical and has a professional outlook. Most of the books on autism are written by parents and offer an insight into theie plight. Yes, this book can be a bit depressing at times, but it's better to be realistic and find a solution.

The best explanations for the underlying causes of behavior and how to teach based on strengths.
There are many books on the market these days. By parents, by professionals. If I had to choose one, by a professional, it would be this one. It will explain how/what to teach based on strengths, how to evaluate those strengths and an explanation of why certain undesirable behaviors occur. Also a very good explanation of what exactly ABA is, isn't and how the method must be individualized according to the strengths of each particular student.

She is a fraud!
Dr. Siegel falsely represents herself as a Forensic Psychologist and is practicing psychology ($650/hour) without a license. She is NOT a Psychologist, has never been one, she has a PhD in Child Development. She falsely represents herself on multiple websites. Her information on Autism is NOT evidence based. Her representing herself as an "expert" on Autism is dangerous. Read Dr. Greenspan or Tony Atwood. Stay away from this charlatan who falsely represents herself with her prestigious Ivy League Education.

Great book for parents, grandparents and teachers of autistic children
Excellent book for parents, grandparents and teachers about teaching austistic children including choosing types of treatments. Comprehensively explains how different autistic children learn and how this can be used to advantage or disadvantage by the various programs. Five star rating because it is so pragmatic and full of first hand in depth experience.
