Complete Works of H. Emilie Cady

Life Changing Principles
After wanting to do so for decades, what would be better than finally reading "Lessons in Truth"? Reading "Complete Works of H. Emilie Cady", of course. I couldn't believe my good fortune, when I saw this book, actually three books in one, for a bargain price on Amazon.com.The first part of this book was published in 1896 as "Lessons in Truth" as the main text book of Unity. The principles taught by Unity School of Christianity and all Unity publications are based on Bible and "Lessons in Truth." Although Unity is called "Practical Christianity", Unity believes there are different ways to God and one does not have to be a Christian to practice the principles. The Unity Spiritual Movement was started by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore after Myrtle healed herself by using denials (Accepting the reality but denying the external circumstances having any power over us) and affirmative prayer (Praising her body, expressing gratitude for blessings in her life, and thanking God for the answered prayer before the prayer was answered.) although doctors gave her two months to live. Unity principles, from "Lessons in Truth", are as follows:1. God is love, all good and the only source of our prosperity (Prosperity includes our emotional, mental, and spiritual as well as physical needs). He is omnipotent, omniscience and omnipresent.2. Humans are made in God's image. Therefore, we all have Holy Spirit living in us.3. What we dwell on is what we bring more of in our lives. Positive thinking brings positive results. (Energy flows where mind goes)4. In order to be healthy mentally, physically and spiritually, we need to be connected to our Creator with regular prayer.5. Affirmative prayer (Instead of pleading and bargaining with God, being grateful and thanking God for the answered prayer before it is answered) brings positive results. There is also no such thing as "We against you" because we are all united with each other and also with the Creator. Although we are showered by God with everything we need, the reason we don't get our share is us blocking our own good by going against God's will for us. Also forgiveness, affirmations and a life of service (being a channel for God's goodness) are covered in this book.Over the years, practicing these teachings has made an incredible difference in my life and the life of others with whom I have shared Unity publications. Although I have been familiar with these teachings and I have read publications based on "Lessons in Truth" on a regular basis over twenty years, I needed to read the book the second time with two markers to make the material my own. "Lessons in Truth" is not a book you can breeze through with mindless reading. Writing is straight forward and easy to understand but the concepts introduced are so revolutionary to most people and each paragraph is so very deep with many concepts in it, one needs to meditate on each sentence. In the second part, "How I Used Truth" published in 1916, each chapter gives a different problem and specific instructions about how to deal with it. Each chapter of "God a Present Help", the third part published in 1908, explains different concepts the author used in the first two parts. The first and the second parts (or books) are much easier to read than "Lessons in Truth".Often I see bestselling books based on Emilie Cady's books and principles without giving her any credit for it. Last one was a couple of nights ago, a bestselling author and a pastor was quoting almost exact wording of chapter called "In His Name" when he was talking about anything you say after "I AM" becomes your destiny. Unlike them, this amazing female homeopathic doctor in nineteen century dedicated her life to serving others selflessly by treating patients without charging them any money, volunteering at homes for juvenile delinquents and having helped people with her writings for over hundred years. What a legacy!

deep think book
This book was a gift to myself and one of the best gifts I've ever received. This book to me, is not so much a book as it is a manual for everyday life. It's a book that can be read over and over and can be studied for the rest of ones life. This book is based on Jesus' teachings, but it opens up a whole new way of thinking on who Jesus was and what he came to accomplish. This book has progressed my spiritual growth and still does to this day. I do compare this woman and her teachings to that of Mary Baker Eddy. Emily studied Mary Baker Eddy's books (I did research Emily's background) and that is where she got her ideas and understanding from. Although I know the true source of Emily's teachings is from Christian Science, it's still nice to get a different point of view on it. I recommend this book to the deep spiritual seeker.

Solid spiritual food
I ran into Lessons in Truth many years ago and have kept it through many moves while discarding other books of lesser value. I was delighted to find this Complete Works at a Unity church recently and purchased it. Unfortunately that copy was missing a number of pages and I'm going to get another one here.Ms. Cady was the real deal, not a spiritual superstar who was in it for the glory and the money. Most of the ideas that you'll find in metaphysical books by that type, you will find here in Ms. Cady's own modest but highly intelligent writing. I return to it time and time again when I need some solid spiritual food. The language is Christian but don't let that stop you. It is universal in its truth and practical in its application. I highly recommend it.

Books - Share Well, Share Often! (never accept a book not worth sharing)
For those whose lives are devoted to the seeking of Truth - it was recommended to me that I establish a library of twelve (or so) of the best, most important and enlightened books I encounter. This body of work will likely evolve through the years. Read each of the books, one after the other, until you have read them all - then start over again - continue to do so ad infinitum. The Works of H.Emilie Cady may be one such book for you....Never accept a book that is not worth sharing... share well, share often... and Remember,"There is not one thing in all the universe that does not also have it's source in you."

One of the Great Metaphysical Source Books
Emilie Cady was a physician in the earlier 1900's but she healed more then physical pain, she used God's principles of good to heal the soul, increase prosperity, and call forth miracles. I am a student of New Thought having read and studied Fox, Dyer, Chopra, Williamson, Maltz, Butterworth and many others, however, I enjoy the straightforward writing style and no nonsense approach that Ms. Cady takes to God's desire for us to experience peace and prosperity. There was a great consciousness of enlightenment that occurred at the turn of the century with the Filmores, Mary Baker Eddy, Emerson, Mesmer and others, Ms. Cady's book captures the purity of that new movement back then which now has become much more mainstream today. It's worth going back to those source books to begin ones spiritual journey.

Have loved and learned from her writing over many years
I have most of the early books by Cady (thank you book sales!). Have loved and learned from her writing over many years. This edition is nicely produced, with background material on her life. Very worthwhile if you enjoy study of the inner spiritual life, especially from a Christian perspective. Cady considered herself a non-denominational writer in the Truth teachings of the early 20th century. Obviously a courageous person, who was a female physician when it was very rare. Definitely recommend!

From someone who knows.
After over 30 years of reading spiritual books, it's not easy for me to find one that really inspires. This one did. I also like Florence Scovel Shinn; I like books written in earlier times by people who weren't aiming for fame or the best seller list, but just really wanted to help people. There's an honesty about them that's hard to fake.

One of the finest works on New Thought (and Christianity)
I’ve read a lot of books about New Thought, but found this compilation to be supremely well-written and detailed about one woman’s genuine connection with God and the deeper meanings of the Bible that traditional Christianity has forgotten. It also summarises all the principles of New Thought in tandem. In other words, I believe this woman found the basic Truth underneath Christianity that all religions attempt to describe. Although I do not have a Christian background, I have found a lot of agreement with Cady’s understanding of it. It’s a long compilation, but so worth reading, as you don’t need anything else!
