Put the sticky washers on the seat frame first, then peel off the backing when ready to place the assembled unit in position. With the 12 volt transformer supplied, the seat gets just pleasantly warm to the touch, which should be fine for most. My house is inadequately heated, so I was interested in the optional 18 v transformer offered as an accessory. I found on the manufacturer's website that the shipping for an item weighing less than a pound is excessive, so I bought a suitable 18 v plug in power supply ("brick") from Amazon. With this, the seat is downright toasty, getting to a little over 110° F. I may someday tinker something that lets me vary the voltage.
