Keep Reading--The End is Worth the Wait
As I began reading this book I only knew of David Labrava as an actor and writer on "Sons of Anarchy" and a member of HAMC. I found that there is a lot more to him than that. The first part of the book talks about Labrava's life when he was heavily involved in the drug world. It's a litany of petty crime, not so petty crime, jail time, and heroin addiction. I had about given up on him when he became a street junkie who shot himself up with heroin and speedballs in the jugular. He was sleeping on doorsteps and entryways and even lived in a cardboard box--but I knew he has become a success so I kept reading. What followed was a truly inspiring story of a man who basically pulled himself out of heroin addiction and the self destructive lifestyle that goes with it, something that very few can claim. He went from a strung out junkie to a high profile Hollywood figure in just a few years. He is also a certified Harley mechanic, accomplished surfer, tattoo artist and shop owner, and glass artist, as well as a world traveler. It is notable that, unlike many in this genre, this book is not ghostwritten. The author has written for national magazines for years and writes well. He defies the stereotype of the "motorcycle thug" that we often see depicted in the media and on the news. He is a man worthy of respect, and this book is worth reading. Don't judge him because of his tats, his bike, his motorcycle club affiliation, or his past drug use and prison time. Take him for what he is today--a highly accomplished author, writer and actor who has diversified his life in many ways.

A lot of passion went into this book
I personally felt this was a great book! You learn a lot about David, especially his younger days. Yes, there's typos (I'm not a grammar nazi so it really didn't bother me) but I can understand how it would bother some, but from what I gathered from DL's Twitter account he wrote this book within a couple of weeks. What makes up the grammar is you can tell he wrote it with a lot of passion. You can hear him tell you the story and he gives good details that you can picture it as you're reading it."Becoming A Son" tells you more of David's childhood, mulling for drug dealers, and eventually his own drug addiction. He probably should have been dead a long time ago but he survived and became part of a beloved tv show. If you're going into this book hoping it solely gives you details about the show or Hell's Angels then you'll probably be disappointed. I personally wanted to learn more about David growing up, he always seemed mysterious to me, so reading it in his own words was great for me.Maybe some other time David will give more details about the show, but I doubt he'll ever give much details about Hell's Angels. It seems David is very loyal so you can't really blame him there. Regarding details of the show however, Charlie Hunnam does make an appearance in this book and it's cool to read about how their friendship was formed.Overall I think those who like a good biography book would enjoy this, especially SOA fans. I think most would be pleased with what David gives you about his personal life. I look forward to more of DL's ventures and hope he keeps moving up.

Completely life changing read
I am hesitant to write a review about this book because it’s about his life. How does someone review a book about someone else’s life without it being perceived as judging the life itself?I’ve been a voracious reader since the age of eight, reading a book in a single day and spending weeks on end in my room reading during my life and not once in all that time have I ever said that a book was “life changing” until now. Perhaps it was my prior reading material, or just my basic belief that the term “life changing” is bandied about too often about books that really don’t deserve it. This book more than deserves it.This book is not an easy read by any means, I’m not speaking about the way it is written, I am speaking on the subject itself. A lot of people may read this book and judge the life lived by the man who wrote it and not the strength it actually took to live that life. As I was reading it I kept alternating between “crap, my life is boring” and “thank goodness my life is boring.” I don’t think I could have gone through everything he did and not wound up some absolute catatonic mess curled up in a fetal position somewhere. One phrase, one sentence, stands out in the book for me and it may be because he used it more than once but it completely resonated with me in a fundamental way and I’m going to take this one to heart. “The worst day chasing your dreams is better than the best day doing something else.”I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking to gain some real perspective. In fact, buy two copies, because I can almost guarantee that you will want to get your friends to read it and you’ll want a backup copy in case one gets lost.

Great read!
I bought this book, because I knew David earned his role on SOA. I read this book, because I wanted to find out more about how SOA was created; I knew David was a consultant to Kurt Sutter, the show's creator. What I found was book full of natural tension that kept me reading until the end. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I would love to rate this book a bit lower because of the spelling and grammar errors, but it was just so inspirational that I have to give it 5 stars. I got to learn things I would have never known if not for this book, and I look at things a lot differently than I did before I read it; in my mind, that is what makes a good book. Great job, David! I hope to see more of your work in the future!!!

Repetitive
A bit disappointing really. I was expecting a lot more about the H A. Obviously he's had a hard life but there is only so much about taking drugs, dealing drugs, getting arrested, getting out of jail I felt able to take. half way through I turned to the last few pages, still no mention of the H A in name and virtually nothing about S O A. And no pictures.Sad to say, I found it a bit boring.

great read
Bought this for my partner. As a biker and an avid fan of the TV show it's not really to do with the sons. It's to do with the life and times of David Labrava's life. A good read if you are a mc biker.

Someone should of proof read prior to printing.
Not long started reading this book, it has been an interesting read so far, but a little frustrating with so many typos and printing errors.Disappointed, but I will finish reading. I just wish that the book was produced by a professional publisher and not amazon.

Enjoyable read
Probably not the greatest written, however this is a great insight into the life of a man that has been to the depths of humanity and came back fighting, to achieve his goal, his dream to become a better person and a Brother, we'll done that man.
