Not what I expected, but amazing nonetheless
Shintaro Mofujin's book My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine!? volume 2 is a story which I did not expect, but was still a very good story nonetheless. From the very beginning, the story in My Best Friend is Dense Harem Main Character-kun, But Why am I the Heroine!? volume 2 is making itself different from any other high school Rom-Com harem story by telling the story of Tomoda Itahashi, or “irrelevant side character B”, as he calls himself, rather than Hiro Manashima, the “generic harem main character”. Even though I would consider Tomoda just as much of a dense character at times during the story. The story is quite intriguing as it uses the setting of many rom-com anime and manga, but this time, instead of telling the story from the eyes of the close to annoyingly dense main character, we get to see it through the eyes of the character I usually find even more endearing: the best friend character. That one character that goes out and beyond to support his dense friend in the pursuit of love. But this time, that friend turns into the love interest. Yup, it's that kind of story. And I loved it!As for the characters; there are really only two that are worth discussing at length: Irrelevant Side Character B, Tomoda Itahashi, and dense harem main character-kun, Hiro Manashima. Those two can best be explained through following my last review; by comparing with Infinite Stratos and it's infamously dense main character: Ichika Orimura. Although, rather than turning Ichika’s personality around, we now have an Ichika 2.0, and his best friend that tries to get him together with one of the love interests. The characters really bloom out after the gender-swap that happens in the end of chapter one (not a spoiler, it's even in the synopsis). This is where the love interests show their true colours and Hiro actually starts falling in love. You can even say the book's true potential doesn't appear until chapter two. I do have to commend Mofujin on how wonderful the naming of the character's is. Although anyone who has never studied Japanese or watched manga won't understand.Something I have to comment on in this book is how the dialogues are written in some kind of script-style ([Name]:, rather than “..said Name”) the rest of the book is written, well, like a book. I feel that it's an odd way of writing, although it's fitting for this book where discussions between many characters happens often and it gives off that stuffy feeling of many people talking to you at the same time that happens around harem protagonists.Although I have praised this book a lot, this book is definitely not for anyone with little experience of anime, similar to the American Kitsune series. It references anime, and especially rom-com harem ones in it's whole concept to get through with its jokes, similar to anime such as Lucky Star or Gintama, and because of this, none to little experience with anime will lead to many jokes going above your head.Overall, interesting twist to the Harem rom-com genre, and I give it an 8/10. Looking forward to reading future volumes!

Revenge of Tomoda!
So here now the revenge of Tomoda the helper chr on a Visual Novel in the anime/manga Monthly Girls manga Nozaki-kun.The story is quite nice, a Very entertaining read.So what it is about? From the title alone you can guess it is a romcom and it is. It directly make fun of itself too. There were characters that are introduced but the main focus of this volume was the 2 main char, and I like it that way. However, I believe that the other characters will get their own backstories soon.If you like over the top self conscious romcom. Here is a good one.Oh and Author, if you reading this, I might need Mina's POV soon. This one actually bothers me.

Good reading
I found this book on Amazon and the cover and title sounded really good and interesting,so I decided to pick it up. Needless to say I was not disappointed. The story is well thought out and is not super long and drawn out like some light novels out there. Overall I loved it and couldn't stop reading it until the end. I plan to pick up the next books in this series but I plan to wait a bit because it took over doing actually house work (that's how good it is.) So I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a light read.

Fun Concept, Weak Execution
I was drawn to this story by the concept, as someone who grew up with harem anime and rom coms I could see fun paths a story like this could do... It does keep to the idea it presents to an extent. The Author is clearly a fan of the genre and is having fun writing a fluffy, ultimately silly story. Perhaps it's me who was hoping for a deeper cut into the tropes of the genre instead of playing them fairly straight. But I was underwhelmed...Characters are very flat, and dialog is very stilted and awkward. They all lean so heavily into their tropes that none of them feel real, even compared to the kind of characters their meant to be representing from anime/manga. Everyone speaks in very formal stiff ways much of the times that does not flow well. Conversations often feel more like characters taking turns to monologue then a real conversation. I'm also personally not a fan of the 'script' format of dialog in stories but that one is a matter of preference.Characterization in specificTomo and his family are probably the worst offenders of this their all so over the top (especially Kana, whose stick wore thin REAL fast). They never seemed to feel like a family at all, even an eccentric one like this story is trying to portray... Considering their all technically 'side characters' in this pseudo-anime series where Hiro is the dense main character you could argue that's fine but since they are much more in focus as Tomo is the other lead it really hurts any scene with the family...Mina is another very inconsistent character whose characterization swears back and forth in ways that make it hard to follow. By the end it's framed that's she's come out in a more positive light but her two faced turn was played too hard that the rebound back just fell flat with me... I would argue that this series wouldn't need a 'childhood friend' girl in the harem since Tomo would be taking over that role shortly after but that might just be a narrative preference.Ironically The Chapters from Hiro's perspective work quite well and despite being constantly lauded as the 'generic main character-kun' he's the only one I that felt like a real character... He had some depth to him, his insecurities and loyalty to his friend are shown well... it's not perfect but it definitely rang truer then anyone else in the cast.Tomo him/herself was set up initially as the 'only sane man' or 'side character B' but actually feels more like the infallible LN protagonist Hiro suppose to spoof on. The book hammers on how pretty, kind and intelligent they are to death, it's more then a bit much. There are moments, particularly with Hiro that it works okay, some parts of the amusement park were nice... but there were too many moment that took me out rather then in. By the end of the book she's got many shades of the Sue varietyOverallI don't regret purchasing this book, for what I spent it was an okay read for a free afternoon. I've read worse stories but I've definitely read better. Ultimately at the end of the day it made me think of everything I was hoping the story would be but wasn't(which I will spar this review as that's hardly relevant to actually product). Maybe I'll come back to this series later down the line and try another volume to see if things have improved but for now I'm bowing out at Volume 1.
