An in-depth look at the M1 Garand, the standard US service semiautomatic rifle in WWII and Korea and used by the US Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon today. Gen. George S. Patton called it โthe greatest battle implement ever devised.โ The legendary .30-caliber M1 Garand semiautomatic rifle was the standard US service rifle in WWII and Korea. More than five million were made in American factories between 1937 and the end of 1945. It was also used by over 50 countries worldwide and saw combat into the 1970s. Today it is the weapon used by the US Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon in its precision exhibitions. Its design, construction, and variants, as well as its famed use during WWII in all war theaters, are shown in superb period photography and clear, up-close color images. Accessories such as magazines, ammunition, belts, bandoleers, and cleaning kits are featured throughout the book, as well as rarely seen WWII-related uniform and equipment items.

Great Book But Never Pre Order
One of the better books, visually, on the M1. Lot's and lots of pretty pictures and info on the gun. Accessories and history but not overly detailed. There are other books for that. My only gripe is that I ordered it back in April knowing it would come out in March. Amazon guaranteed the lowest price before it shipped...what they didn't do was guaranty the lowest price after it shipped....right after it came out it went down by three bucks. I will never pre-order anything on amazon ever again.

Its OK, just OK
Its ok. Lots of grammar and misspellings, words that don't fit/belong. Very first page it calls the Springfield 1903 a "shotgun". At first I thought it was poor editing but now understand its a translated copy. If this was the first book I had ever got on the M1, I would have thought it was fair/good. Wasn't as deep as I hoped However there are much better books out there.

Don't waste your money on it!
I purchased all of the titles in this series a year ago. All books in this series were originally printed in France, then translated and released by Schiffer. As such, some of the translations don't work ("bronzing" being "bluing" being the more frequent gaff). Out of all of them, this one is utter garbage. It is highly inaccurate (I've been a member of the Garand Collectors Association for several decades, so I know my history on these arms) and heavily biased. The only redeeming value I found in it was to give an ideal on how restrictive firearms ownership in France is. And to use as example of what NOT to buy for an M1 Garand reference. The M1 Carbine book isn't much better, but to their credit, the German arms are significantly better. Just buy any title by Bruce Canfield instead regarding Garands.

Wrong item bought
I didnโt know this product was a book, I thought I was paying for a toy gun for my son.

It's just a book no models of guns
It looked as if the accessories were plastic models instead it was just an illustration .
