These came packaged securely and unbroken. You could see some residue on the slate from the packing, but I simply hand washed them with dish soap and it all came off. They are exactly what I expected from the photos and description! They have small foam feet so they won't scratch your surfaces.Another reviewer mentioned that the slate flakes everywhere and will come off whenever you touch it. I have not experienced this in the month I've been using them. When I washed them (when they first arrived) I did notice tiny grain-of-sand sized black pebbles in my sink, but that was what I expected anyway. I have had no problems since then. (Slate is a layered, delicate sort of stone anyway...I won't be surprised someday when it does chip, but I expect to get many years use out of them so long as I don't throw it across the room).Last fall I went on a trip to Scotland and was excited to see slate everywhere - they must have it in abundance there. I've noticed that since then I've slowly been adding slate accents into my decor. Some restaurants we went to on the trip had slate place mats, which is exactly what I ordered these for. I love the idea that these are heat resistant so I don't have to have a table cloth to protect my wood. At each place setting I have both the large rectangle ("place mat") and the square (coaster for cup). The place mat is plenty big enough to hold any plate or bowl you might want to use, but it wouldn't work for a full sized bowl and a full sized plate at the same time. I haven't entertained a group of people yet so I'm not sure if guests will like them for my intended use, but for the last month I've enjoyed using them.I will be ordering a second set - to bring me up to six place mats because I have six chairs for my dining room table. The extra I can really use for a cheese board, trivet, decorative "tray", to go under candles, or anything else. The coasters match pretty perfectly a set of slate coasters I already have (by the way, those coasters alone cost me $10-15, so I am very please with the price of this set!)

We got these because a friend of ours across the pond had some, but hers were made of a much nicer and stronger material than these. These started to chip off as soon as we got them out of the package. The slate is more of a matte matte black that shows stains easily, and once when we washed one of them (in the sink--we wouldn't dare put these in the dishwasher), a corner broke off. Definitely not the deep onyx color and sturdy construction of my friend's place mats.

The product is good, but has room for improvements. Some of the edges were cracked to where the rectangle was uneven. Regardless that the slate plates were suppose to have jagged edges the chipping occurred after the plates were being removed from the package, flaking to the touch. They are delicate pieces but way too delicate for something that needs to be functioning eating environment. If the plates were thicker the chipping would not be so prominent on the pieces. I had a wooden box made to house the plates given that they need to be stored away from other dishes for the obvious reason. All in all the purchase is satisfactory and I hope it becomes a hit at our table. I would purchase this again, but hope there are improvements by that time that happens.

I thought these looked perfect online. But they are so impractical. They flake EVERYWHERE. Constantly. They are extremely difficult to clean or wipe. You can't even touch them without getting black on your hands. You can't wipe them without getting black on your towel or paper towel, and then fabric particles on the slate. Again, they look great, but unless you're planning on placing them and never touching them or using them, you need to look for something else. I would have returned them, but getting them packed back in the box and styrofoam would have been more messy.

Nice quality and perfect size for what I needed. These will be used for cheese presentation board. I like they have small feet on the bottom so they don't scratch the table. Tip- lightly oil them before use.

They were much small than I thought. I still love the . There were only 6 pieces of slate. There were no coasters unless they thought the slate was to small for a plate.

Beautiful crafted. Cheese board is nicely made .It’s traditional farmhouse design , which is exactly what I want . The only thing i donot like is that it requires hand wash only . I just wish it could be dishwasher safe .
