It's tight!
I found that there is a bit of a learning curve. The tape mechanism is very tight, although you must be careful of tilting the head or you will change the arc. All in all I found it to be a very useful tool. If mine should break I will replace it with the same model. JC

handy tool
The compass is ideal for drawing large diameter circles. We did a paint job that called for various size circles that were all painted different colors. It worked extremely well for the precise measurements. It is a handy tool for any painting contractor to have. However, this tool is incapable of drawing small circles - say smaller than 4" diameter, in which case you would use a conventional compass.

"Killer Tool!!"
These are a great addition to any tool box. We use them regularly at out pattern making shop for layout as well as drawing curves and circles. You can use this tool to lay out right angles, ninty degree angles, and to bisect angles, just to name a few. As far as I'm concerned it is invaluable!!
