Top reviews are silly, this is a knife, not a toy
It's a good starter knife, relatively cheap, stainless steel, sharp but not too sharp, rounded tip, proportionately sized, would recommend. As for con's, handle is just okay, would prefer more of a finger guard on there as well maybe? There was another one we saw by Opinel with a finger guard that was over double the price with one that was considered. That said, for this knife and for what it costs the pros well outweigh the cons. If concerned can get the cut resistant gloves Amazon recommends.Regarding some of these reviews.. I really don't get it. This is a knife. A. Knife. No where does it say this is a toy. What were you thinking exactly when you handed it to your kid without having a serious talk and teaching them about how to safely handle it, without taking proper precautions, and without properly supervising? Like even that Opinel knife in description clearly states "Please note that this knife is sharp and young users should be supervised at all time." Maybe because of the packaging not being in English, combined with user ignorance etc. led to this situation?Or, you "cut yourself twice while washing it"? Give me a break. How are you still alive? LOL. It's sharp but not that sharp. Did you just throw it into the sink and then surprised when you reach in the water blindly and cut yourself or something? Trying to picture how this is even possible. Knife. Sharp. Treat it with respect?Getting redundant at this point but, this is a knife. It is not a toy. It is sharp enough to get the job done, but not like a razor blade or anywhere near a freshly/professionally sharpened knife. Feels just sharp enough to get the job done, is not like those dull blunt toy "play knives" that you can find that are extremely difficult to cut anything with.Sorry if your kid got cut, but if they did, let's be honest, if they did, did you really take all the precautions you should have? Did you educate your child properly? Doubt. Where's the accountability? If your kid is very young or you want to be safe have them wear the cut resistant gloves. Amazon recommends some, they work fine. If they've never used a sharp knife before, educate them, have a serious conversation with them first explaining the dangers, and teach them how to use a knife correctly. And finally, if you do not feel you can trust your child with, again, a knife.. then.. do not hand them.. a knife..? If after your talk with them you see they aren't listening, or aren't treating it with respect, take it away and don't let them use it until they've proven they can be more responsible? Try again in 6-12mo? Of course, accidents can happen, but don't blame the knife. Not sure why Amazon asks if its giftable, not something I would recommend buying except for your own child, for hopefully obvious reasons, like what if they are like the aforementioned reviewers and you catch the blame for their lack of precaution/accountability?

Safe, effective, and fun for little hands to use
I bought this knife for my 5 year old who is always in my feet wanting to help when I cook. He loves to chop up veggies and was previously using a butter knife which didn't get the job done without a ton of frustration on his part. He decided to ask Santa for a starter knife for Christmas, and this was the perfect knife for him! It fits really well into his little hand, and he easily chops onions, bell pepper, and celery, and I don't have to worry about him getting hurt. The blade is blunt enough so that it won't cut little fingers, but it does a good job cutting crisp foods like veggies and soft foods like bananas. He loves to wash it after we are done chopping and puts it in my knife block along with my sharp knives so he feels like it is a real chef's knife. If you have an aspiring little chef in your house, this is the perfect beginner knife for them.

Conflicting reviews
Some reviewers say these knives are very safe and others say they are too sharp. My experience is that it's safe. In fact, I wish it were a bit sharper. It's sharp enough to cut things like potatoes but not quite sharp enough to cut carrots or onions. Because it's not that sharp, you would have to put a bit of pressure to cut those harder vegetables, which can be dangerous.

Great for little hands
It works great for cutting vegetables and fruits. We've used it for slicing and dicing bacon. My 9 year old loves it and it fits his hands perfectly. He's been cooking with me for a few months (and baking since he was little) but he never got to chop food before. Since we got this knife, he stays with me in the kitchen until all the vegetables are chopped. It's his favorite activity. This is a sharp knife and will actually cut you, but it's a great size for little hands and it teaches them to be careful when chopping, unlike the plastic knives that they often sell for kids.

Great kids knife
Bought this for my 6 year old last year. He loves it. It is not flimsy metal and can cut a carrot but not sharp enough to cut skin. The handle is not slippery during use even with wet hands. My wife uses it too. I found out it is made by the same company that makes Shun Japanese chefs knives and Kershaw pocket knives.

Poor edge quality and retention. Avoid!
Kai is a well respected manufacturer and seller of both kitchen and pocket knives so I had a reasonable expectation that the knife that I would receive would be well made. And it is well made, the handle is a good size, it's a perfect shape for small hands, and it's not too heavy for a child to use. However, the issue is is that I've literally seen knives at the dollar store that had more of an edge and were ground correctly. It was sharpish but certainly not of the keenness needed for a child to learn proper knife skills.Plus, not having the heel and tip portion of the blade sharpened all the way to the end is really a liability not a safety feature in that when that dull edge hits food it's now certainly going to slip and slide. I am a knife hobbyist and it was no problem for me with my sharpening equipment to quickly fix the wavy edge and sharpen it all the way from heel to the tip.And here's where the problem lies, the steel used is a very low quality stainless with extremely poor edge retention. To the point where a freshly sharpened edge was completely dull after cutting a few vegetables. To say I am disappointed is a understatement.

Sharp! and good for small hands
Bought this to have a smaller knife my daughter could use to learn with and it's working great. As other reviews have stated this is a real knife, not a toy, definitely cuts as well as other kitchen knives I have

Kid loves it!
My 2.5 years daughter love to cut her fruits and vegetables with this knife. It's very sharp and parents need to supervise all the time however the point is round and it's save on the end that means it cannot stabe with its point.
