Temperate Permaculture Has a Strong Foundation in the Manual
Reading time is very precious, but I do enjoy having books over an e reader. So every permaculture book has something I need or something I should remember. This book is no exception, in fact this book should be a close second to the Mollison Designers Manual. It provides sound permaculture steps in a clear easy to read format with a lot of knowledge crammed into one book. It's heavy, like a Designers Manual, so it will not be carried with you everywhere you go. There is also too much information to memorize, so it will become a great reference tool. Possibly better than the Designers Manual as it is more focused on the temperate climate when the Designers Manual covers all climates.I had never seen the contents of the book before purchasing it, but I thought I would take a chance as it was referenced in the Aranya book contents and also on several website that I trust. While building my reference library, I have a limited amount of money like everyone else, so I plan my purchases carefully. This book has become a great find, with very few copies available in good condition at a reasonable price, I am extremely happy to obtain this one. I am told that Mollison made a state that the output of the yield is only limited by the designers imagination, if this is the case I want all of the ideas I can to obtain that yield and this manual will help.

This is a "never-give-away-book"!
It's really a great book and worth every penny if you're interested in Permaculture in cooler climates.I was also a bit frightened by the price but it's a BIG book and the informations inside are priceless.I also tend to say it's better than Mollisons Manual because the way of writing is easier to understand for me (I'm german). So this is one of the books I will never allow to leave my house. ;-)

Wonderful Resource!
I just borrowed this book from the library because I was a little scared away by the high price. Now I know that I have to buy it. This is a fantastic book. I'm planning to start a small farm and have been reading about permaculture for a couple of years. If you live in a temperate climate, this is the best book on the subject. It is filled with diagrams and interesting details about how to establish a successful system. There is hardly anything that the book doesn't touch on. If you are a serious home gardener or you are looking to create a more sustainable farm, this book will be a well used resource.

changing the world
If you ddont know whaat permaculture is the defination is it a "framework for creating a sustainable way of living" or "a method of developing ecologically harmonious, efficient and productive systems that can be used anywhere. The author considers permaculture deals vwith what has happened and not how it happened. The book is divided into two parts a)basics and b)applications. The basics include -what is permaculture, principles, soil, climate, water and energy while the applications buildings, gardens, frruit and nuts, poultry, farms, food links, woodland, biodiversity, designprocess and design skills.A massive tome that takes some reading.

Great textbook on Permaculture
I've only had a chance to glance through this and readsnippets, but I'm very impressed. A lot of information wellorganized; it's like a textbook for a college levelPermaculture course. Seems comparable to, but easier tounderstand and apply, than Mollison's Permaculture DesignManual. I'm in the PNW US but I think this book will be veryuseful here. Only compliant is the climate, etc maps ofbritian rather than the US :-)

This is the manual for the Pacific NorthWest
Bill Mollison is probably happy to see this big edition (it's a big book) added to the Permaculture coat rack.Contains a lot of great insight into key designering principles, with a great emphasis on temperate climate.

Ein hilfreicher Lebensbegleiter
Da ich der Übersetzung nicht ganz traue, habe ich die englische Version bestellt. Sehr anschaulich und fundiert - so kann man lernen, nachhaltiger zu leben.

Well written book that guides you every step of the way to a new (old) way of living
Having received this book last week, and initially being a little daunted by the size, I am absolutely hooked. The late, great Patrick Whitefield, has written this book in a way that makes a "new" concept understandable and achievable. He educates without bias and explains the more complicated theories and the simple processes in a consistent manner, which allows the information to be easily digested as you read.I have long been interested in finding an alternative way to live alongside the planet and others, and stumbled across Permaculture a few years ago. My initial optimism was somewhat knocked back, as so much of what I was reading, however interesting, seemed to be focused on climates that we simply don't experience within the UK. Permaculture, as a concept and an idea, originated in Australia and all of the original teachings stemmed from here. What Patrick has achieved here is he's adapted and worked with the original concepts and suggestions and applied them to the climate we have within the UK.This is, in my opinion, the go to resource for all things Permaculture. I'd also suggest this book if your looking at making some changes to your lifestyle and what to know a bit more about growing vegetables, creating energy, no dig gardening and how best to support Planet Earth.Highly recommended

Superb
In building a library to research/consider off grid micro farming, this is certainly one of the most useful reference books. Slightly heavy read cover to cover but packed with good information. When this becomes a compulsory text book for politicians - we might get somewhere
