Costumes are stunning.
Spanish import with Spanish writing on cover. The DVD language choices are Spanish or English, so there is no problem playing it in the UK on a PAL player. Just select English from your menu. The movie itself is classic Hollywood hokum. A bit noisy - but lots of fun. An orphaned rich boy gets sent to live with his outrageous Aunt who loses her fortune in the crash and works her way back up the social scale again meeting lots of characters along the way.Worth the money to see the fabulous Rosalind Russell and Coral Browne stealing the show and looking wonderful in those glorious clothes of the period. The costumes are stunning!

The Auntie we wish we all had...
I was introduced to this film by a friend, and am so glad that I was. Camp, funny and stylish. It's supposedly based on a real-life situation (look out for the book by Patrick Dennis) where a young boy whose father dies becomes the charge of his madcap aunt. And what an education he receives under her care. Watch Auntie Mame when you need a lift (perfect for when you have a cold or fancy a pyjama day). You will not be disappointed.

Fantastically opulent comedy
This is a really camp film - featuring a lush apartment that is re-decorated about 8 times during the course of the film - one of the delights for me. Russell is her irrepressible self and it is written in the vein of "Everything is coming up roses" morality. If you want gritty realism or musical escapism then avoid this. A boy is thrown into a wild world and eventually learns what it is really all about!

wow
rosalind russell IS auntie mame and plays the ott lead to the hilt and takes no prisoners.based on the patrick dennis book this is THE version to get (forget the awful ball version as noted in my review of THAT film).corale brown plays her side kick as best she can but when la russell is on screen SHE is really all you see.lavish sets, costumes, funny a first rate movie with all the best types of "camp" thrown in for good measure.a goody.(nb although this is a zone 1 if you dont have a multi regional player there ARE sites on the internet that show you how to convert very easily.funnily enough the cheaper the dvd player the easier to do )

The Original and the best!
It is worth going out and buying a multiregion DVD just to settle down and enjoy Rosalind Russell crashing into and out of the lives of so many people. Rosalind Russell brings to the silver screen possibly the performance of her career and enchants all who have seen this madcap tale that is actually quite ahead of its time in some of its thoughts on female independance and the crass obsessions of the white middle classes in America. But enough of the serious stuff! Buy this DVD to enjoy the gags, the double entendres and yes dammit the hats!
