Ithaca 280 Direct Thermal Printer - Monochrome - Receipt Print (Refurbished)

This point of sale (POS) printer is easy to connect to a computer because it uses a USB connection, but the driver download is fairly confusing to use. It is not plug-and-play. In fact, the particular driver for the 280 is in a package with other drivers in a folder labeled "ITherm-576". TRANSACT provides several manuals for downloading including a programmers manual with over 300 pages.This printer has many options, but selecting them is very obscure. There are a total of two buttons, on-off and paper-feed. Combinations of pressing or holding these two buttons in sequence or at the same time can display the current settings AND make changes.The Power On Self Test (POST) prints out fairly dark. Very acceptable; in contrast, actual receipts are a little too light. I tried to go through the configuration menu to select bold printing, but before I got to fonts and printing, the first items were a variety of printer emulations; There were at least eight. Number eight in that list was "Microline". Unfortunately I held the paper-feed button too long and ended up actually selecting the wrong emulation. The result is that receipts do not even print.There is no button that resets to the factory or default settings. So, correcting the incorrect emulation requires going back to that same configuration procedure starting from the beginning. A software configuration tool is mentioned in the manuals, but it is not available on-line.The USB cable is not included with this printer. This printer is quiet and fast.
