Donizetti: 6 Complete Operas

This box includes 6 operas. Each opera has two disks, except for Rita and Il Giovedi Grasso which have one disk each. No other materials are included. The cardboard sleeves generally provide the date and place performed, a listing of the tracks, the singers, orchestra and conductor. The sleeves also provide an internet address for Membran's booklet for each opera which includes the libretto (in Italian only).For fans of errata, Donizetti is spelled "Donitetti" on the four small sides of the box.These are generally very good performances. Fantastic value for money .what a way to collect operas. What other boxes of operas are available ?

Compuesta por 10 cds en mana de cartón sin ninguna nota de acompañamiento (los libretos pueden descargarse en pdf en la dirección del sello Membran), se recogen seis operas “menores” de Donizetti en grabaciones en directo principalmente de los años ochenta (salvo la de ‘Il giovedi grasso’, en estudio, de 1961). La verdad es que por el precio solicitado (15 €) es una ganga y su calidad sorprende, por mucho que uno esté expuesto a los “sobresaltos” que suelen conllevar las grabaciones en vivo, a saber: aplausos, ruido escénico (sobre todo en ‘Alina’, aunque personalmente es algo que en general no me molesta e incluso me ayuda a meterme más aún en la historia) y sobre todo la cuestión de la distancia variable de los cantantes, principalmente en ‘Maria di Rohan’, donde la Orquesta Internacional de Italia Opera toca en alguno de los momentos más álgidos con algo de desarticulación y adolece además de sonido un tanto opaco, con una percusión retumbante y, sobre todo, una orquesta próxima y unos cantantes alejados. ‘Il giovedi grasso’ distorsiona un poco en los tutti y en los forti. Por los demás, el sonido es notablemente nítido, las interpretaciones más que decentes, y no faltan nombres familiares entre los solistas como Daniela Dessí, Rockwell Blake, Andrea Martin, Marina Nicolesco, Vincenzo Alaimo, Luciana Serra, Elena Zilio, Floriana Sovilla, Adelina Scarabelli, James Loomis o Juan Oncina, entre otros.

Generally very enjoyable performances of all the Operas. However there were some elephants on stage and some noisy ones amongst the audience!
