I really like historical novels . The writing is excellent. You really feel immersed in the times and struggles of the characters.

This historically accurate fiction, heart breaking what Hitler a mad man did to the Jewish people. We need to pay attention to what is happening in America now.

This book kept me spell boumd.from chapter 1. I have read about the holocaust all my life but now I I'm living it. Can't wait to start book 3

To have characters display history unfolding in the ugliness of the Third Reich, yet show the human suffering of individuals brings understanding to these events.

This is my 2nd read-through for this series. I read these books not long after they first came out, and at the time, I was extremely impressed with the accuracy of the writer's historical facts around the story lines fictional characters. I was 10 yrs. old at the end of the 2nd World War, and lived along the Jersey coast. Coast Guard military beach patrol (jeeps, dogs, and ready sea worthy vessels up and down the coast)The most frighting thing I remember about the series is the incidious way Hitler moved across Europe taking over entire countries with false propaganda, misplaced blame on a peoples group (the Jews) terror instigated riots, looting, killings, etc.that were supposedly started by unhappy citizens of the "doomed" countries and all the while it was engineered by the Nazi regime. I remember then how long so many countries stayed out of the aggressive take-overs because they "did not feel it was their fight."The horror today that is taking place all over the world looks very similar, and world leaders are treating the terrorist with "gentlemanly" conduct when most of these dictatorial countries have never been tolerant of other people's freedoms or choices. Like it or not - it remains a moral question. Good men will always appear weak, because they refrain from brutality and believe ultimately, that ALL people have a conscience, NOT TRUE!!The Thoenes are excellent story-tellers, and every one of their series is beautifully done. I have read these and the Zion Chronicles.

I have read this series of books several times, over at least two decades. I cannot say that I enjoy the books, even though in my opinion they are well-written.The subject of the series is too dreadful to be enjoyed, & too important not to be remembered & discussed. When I finished the first book, I could not fall asleep, seeing scene after scene roll through my imagination.It seems to me these books contain warnings that apply to the current state of the political landscape of the world. I do recommend that everyone read both this series & the following series, I believe called Zion Chronicles.

I was unable to put the book down as I read it on my ipad. I am always amazed at the author's obvious God-given talent that can so readily weave the different plots together into one story. At times it is difficult to read the terror and evil through which the characters had to live. But, as my mother recently told me (I gave her all six books to read), it was "terrible" for the Jews during WWII. My mother and father lived through the war as my Dad (now deceased) was in the third wave that hit the beach going into North Africa during WWII.I'm a romantic and so liked Murphy and Elisa finally getting together, as well as Otto coming back home.I was left hanging as to what happened to Hershel, and whether Charles will get the needed operation for the cleft palate. But perhaps that will be addressed in Book III. God bless the Thoenes for sharing their talent with all.

This is a second hand book. It is in excellent condition. I am looking forward to reading the series entitled the Zion Covenant, as I really enjoyed reading all the books in the series entitled Zion chronicles, which is a follow-on of this series. I have just received book I of this series, so have not started to read book 2 as yet. The books by this author are extremely informative, and are well researched.

My husband and I have read this book together on a kindle fire hd while travelling in a snow storm by car. We read the book throughout what should have been a three hour journey that finally took over 8 hours. Wonderful read can't wait for the next one
