Description

This round multiple plate sampler is designed for substrata sampling of macroinvertebrate organisms found in rivers, streams, lakes, and tidal flats. Hardboard plates are divided by special nylon spacers and when left in place for about two weeks will attract a good collection of insect larva and other organisms. Plates have smooth surfaces on each side, are fastened together with a long eye bolt, and can easily be disassembled for specimen examination. Each spacer and each plate is 3 mm thick. Consists of fourteen 7.5 cm diameter hardboard plates spaced by eight single spacers, one double spacer, two triple spacers, and two quadruple spacers. The sampler meets EPA description and will fit in a widemouth mason jar for transport or storage.

Useful, but actually too big for jar storage.

Wide mouth mason jars (US) are nominal 76 mm interior opening. This unit, nominally 75 mm, was actually too large to fit in the several jars attempted. Could likely be fixed by a few minutes of sanding, but be advised the tolerances may not allow the mason-jar storage touted.
