Something like this you really can't go wrong with unless you mess-up something critical. It's built well. It folds-up as intended. I actually just fold it up and put it right back in the little rectangle sleeve it comes with when I'm done using it. I'm extremely happy with it as it just works. It's easy for me to take my measurements as I've gotten into better shape over the past year. I see much better results in regards to my weight loss measuring my waist and hips than weighing in on my scale once a week. It's just swell for taking body measurements to buy clothes online measurements they fit. The color is as expected. Its not retractable as-is, although I'm sure you could make or 3d print a case that makes it retractable. I use it daily for measuring almost anything as it works just fine as a basic tape measure. No matter how many times I pull it out and unfold it, it still to this day (as of June 2025) has no signs of any wear on it. Does it retain it's shape? More or less yes. It's a soft flexible tape measure. Is it like a hardware building-type tape measure that holds in a line as long as there's tension? No. It's more for measurements of things like circumference of something or used on a flat-surface. Which is why it's most often used by people who sew as it's mainly used for crafting. I like it, it's simple, and it works.
