How large of a grip do you need compared to most other guns. I have very small hands?

I would rank it as standard/normal compared to other guns I have or have used. At the top, where the base of your thumb knotches into the back handle and your index finger wraps around to squeeze the front handle, it measures 2.75 inches. Keep in mind that the mechanical advantage on this gun makes it much easier to squeeze than many others.

Would this be good for someone with a weaker grip or smaller hand? The cheapest caulking guns are hard to use and the battery powered are expensive.

Yes, I think this caulking gun would work great for weaker grips and smaller hands. I'd buy it and stay away from battery powered guns.

Does it have a lever in the back to release the pressure?

yes...you just hit it with your thumb and the flow immediately stops

does this gun handle the smaller 3m cartrige, or do you have a model that does

This gun is made to use standard 1/10 gal sealant cartridges, which are approximately 8 1/2 " long.
