Keep time with military precision while adding a unique edge to your wardrobe with the Citizen Eco-Drive Men's Chronograph Canvas Watch. Featuring the clean look and the rugged dependability of a stainless steel case and bezel, this timepiece relies on the unique Citizen Eco-Drive movement system, so you never need to replace its battery. Eco-Drive is an advanced, technical system that uses a thin solar panel under the dial to convert light energy from any source into electrical energy used to run your watch. Also playing a key role in this unique system is a special energy storage cell that greatly increases the efficiency and dependability of using light as a power source. As an added benefit, Eco-Drive power doesn't utilize the harmful chemicals contained in traditional batteries, so it's an excellent environmental choice as well. The watch features a black dial with easy-to-read Arabic numerals in white, a convenient date window at four o'clock, a slim second tracker on the outer dial, and three subdials that provide chronograph functionality along with the ability to track hours on a 24-hour scale. The dial is further offset with luminescent minute and hour hands and a sweeping red seconds hand. Even the cool canvas band on this watch offers ultra-detailed construction. In addition to featuring a sturdy buckle clasp that relies on steel-reinforced eyelets, the band is backed with leather, which provides added durability and results in a pleasant feel against your wrist. This versatile men's watch is water resistant to 330 feet. *Charging information: Functions of this watch may not work correctly if the watch is not charged, or charged properly. I love it! - I'll preface my review by saying that I have only had the watch for about a week. That being said, I love it! The packaging was satisfactory - both the Citizen box and desertcart box were properly insulated and wrapped, where the watch was unlikely to be damaged during transit. Upon putting on the watch for the first time, it fit perfectly on my wrist. I should note that I have a very small wrist and I really dislike watch bands that "wrap around" the wrist where the strap is not held close to the band by a band loop (i.e., sticks out). Similarly, the watch itself is perfect as well - the diameter is not so big where the face overwhelms my wrist. I really love the Casio G-force watches, but usually the watch face and/or the rubber band is way too big for my wrist. I also think the band is handsome and rugged. I have no plans to switch it out, "dress it up," etc. The watch has a military look which I like (I was on a medical rescue team in the Air Force and I wish I would have had something like this back then). Time keeping is excellent. I just checked the watch's time and it hasn't lost any seconds since I set it last week. Bravo to solar power. Damn, did I hate changing batteries on my other watches! For this reason alone, I love it. I always use to admire Seiko and have many of their watches. However, I now believe Citizen has trumped Seiko . . . I would definitely buy another one of their watches. Concerning the illumination of the watch - I tested it in a darkened walk in closet and the illumination worked really well. I had no problem discerning the time. Regarding the watch time keeping and chronograph - I thought the large Arabic numerals were easy to read and the 3 chronograph dials were easy to read as well. The chronograph itself is very simple to use and I had no problem figuring out how each functioned. My only complaint is the date window . . . I can barely see it. Perhaps this is more due to my poor vision then anything else. However, it is a minor complaint. Last, but not least, the cost to me was $135 (I believe the watch is selling now for $168.75, i.e., I was fortunate to get the watch while it was discounted by 40%). All in all, I would recommend this watch to anyone; and, as I alluded to earlier, I will probably consider a Citizen watch before other brands, if I am in the market for a watch again. Review: Everything you want it to be - Just came in the mail today- if this watch performs like I expect it to, it will be my new favorite AND edc. This piece packs a punch for the price. What’s more to want? Date, eco-drive, chrono, MT, water-resistance, performance, looks, and fit. I have small wrists and this 7.5” band is for me. It wraps just under 3/4 of my wrist with a double band to pick up the slack. Because I have smaller wrists, the 39mm face accompanied by the buttons still sits like a 41mm would. Although this watch may not be for the bigger wearer, it fits me perfectly at 5’10 160lb. It came out of the box without battery life but it charged up to the 1 sec function within an hour of direct sunlight. The illuminated hands (and smaller 5 min spots) glow brightly enough to impress me. The 24 hr dial and cooly-tilted date window are my favorite face features. The numbers are big and white so this watch is super readable. If you’re counting seconds you may have to improvise from 55-60- if the bigger chrono second-hand is set to 0. They’ve made the large red hand for chrono use only and the constant second- dial is at the bottom of the face, thus making seconds 55-60 virtually unseeable. But for me, this won’t matter except for settting the time. The leather-lined canvas strap is definitely a bit stiff out of the box. I’m currently breaking it in on a tight setting but am hopeful that with a little wear & water (it’s resistant up to 100m), it will break in and shape nicely to me. The unusual 21mm strap does help beef up the overall appearance, although good luck searching for an off-model substitution at that size. There didn’t seem to be too many of this design in this size. The chronograph works and resets super professionally up to one hour. Any longer and it will zero out automatically. Not a down fall for me. The hands are set to true locations but If yours doesn’t- there’s a calibration feature that’s manually adjustable. I’m going to pay attention to the buttons and if they get pressed accidentally but so far (about 3 hours in) I’ve yet to press anything by accident or catch the buttons on anything. (This includes a change of outfits) Overall: I expect this watch to keep comfortably close time; I expect it to be appropriate for anything from golf to dinner and anything in between; I expect it will break in nicely to me personally, I expect it will perform like it’s supposed to and, if not, I expect the Citizen to stand honorably behind their product. I expect this will be my new go-to daily piece and I expect it will continue to grow on me. I will follow up this post only if my expectations aren’t met. If not, then this watch is worth every penny for a mid-range investment in my opinion. Grab one and enjoy! Best! 4/17/22 Update: The strap is tough and stiff. If it doesn’t fit you perfectly I suggest you try setting it on the looser fit and adding water. I’ve bent the strap around quite a bit and have set it loose then soaked the strap. I expect it will rest well here until fully broken in and maybe then I’ll tighten it again. Until then, this worked. Here we are a year later and this is definitely my most favorite watch. Performance is impeccable and I wear it with more outfits than I probably should. The only thing that changes is that I soaked the band in fabric softener over night back when I got it, then ran it through the wash. The leather inside held up- the canvas held up, and the band has relaxed down to a perfect fit on my wrist at the center hole. (One off from the pics) All said & done: this watch has been snorkeling in key west, worn to dinner, and everything in between. Love it.

Beautifully built light-powered military-style quartz chronograph
This watch ticks off all the boxes for me. It had to be affordable. It had to be extremely accurate. It had to be extremely legible in light or total darkness. It had to be water-resistant for everything but scuba diving. It had to have a 24-hour time scale or readout. It had to be compact enough not to overwhelm my 6" wrists. It had to have a scratch-resistant crystal. It had to have a legible, easy to use chronograph function. It had to have a date function. And perhaps most importantly, I did NOT want to be bothered with battery changes or periodic (and expensive if done right) cleaning/lubrication and maybe even degaussing and perhaps re-regulation every 2-3 years. Well, hello Citizen Eco-Drive Chronograph! This watch is beautifully built for any price timepiece, but especially for an affordable one. The Citizen eco-drive movement has yet to register a perceptible timekeeping error as compared to smartphone and computer Internet synchronized time references or WWV on my shortwave. And visually, there's simply no mistaking what time it is whether the ambient illumination is direct sunlight or total darkness at 0500. I may update this review over time, but so far, I'm extremely happy with this watch. Interestingly enough, I bought it to supplement and extend the battery life on my Fitbit Versa2. I found my Fitbit battery wheezing to a halt after as little as a day and a half of frequent time-checking. Now that I'm using my good old fitness tracker primarily as a fitness tracker and phone app updater instead of as an ersatz wristwatch emulator, the battery easily lasts over a week. When I want to know what time it is, I simply glance at my beautiful new, ultra-legible Citizen and voila! I'd almost forgotten how nice it is to have such a legible, intuitive time display on my wrist again! That plus the legendary Citizen Eco-Drive photoelectric battery charging system creates for me an ideal, external charger-independent timekeeper. And everyone who's seen it admires the quality. Nice job, Citizen.

10 years and going strong
UPDATE July 2019-- I bought this watch 10 years ago (March 2009), and have been wearing it pretty much constantly since then. See my notes from 2017 (below) for a few comments about the band. The buttons for the chronograph are getting a little flaky. I admit I have a habit of playing with them, and they've got a lot a use in 10 years, so really I'm impressed that they are still functioning fine after all this time. Some day I'll take it to the local jeweler and see if they can clean it or tune it up for a decent price. The crystal still looks good to me. I'm on my 3rd band, the first two were factory green canvas, the 3rd is a leather band bought on Etsy. I think if this watch were to be lost or ruined, I'd probably buy the same thing again. My eyesight is not what it was 10 years ago, so the date display is much harder to see than when I first bought this watch. I also note that it is currently selling for about 5 dollars less than what I paid for it back in 2009 :) UPDATE October 2017-- After wearing this watch for 8 years, I'm still very happy with it. The crystal looks great. I've replaced the canvas band twice. The band breaks in well and is very tough, but seems to last about 4 years then gets pretty shabby looking. The most recent replacement is a 20mm custom leather band found on Etsy, and it was a little cheaper than the factory replacement canvas. I prefer the canvas and leather bands to metal. I've been swimming with this, in hot tubs, and thousands of miles of motorcycle riding. Other than setting the date at the end of a month, and time changes, the watch has required zero attention from me. It takes lickin' and keeps on tickin' (as the saying goes). ------------------ I got this watch several days ago and love wearing it. It's not a thin watch, but much better than the Timex Expedition that it replaced. It goes under sleeves with much less hassle. The band has received some criticism. It's not very long, so I have to use the last setting. The band looks fine to me, not too green, but not a dress watch. I cut the second strap holder, as it's useless and tends to slip up the band. The watch face is a little large, but nothing at all like the ridiculous chronographs and sport watches out there. Good balance between functional and aesthetics in a reasonable size. The analog watch mechanism is completely silent. As another reviewer pointed out, the big red hand is only for the timer. The second hand is the small dial at the bottom. With the three sub dials and not much contrasting colors, the watch face is a little busy. The other version of this model, with just the day/date display, has a much cleaner face. The timer works fine but, obviously, does not have the functionality or accuracy of a cheap digital. It takes a little guessing to read the minute hand, when it's not buried completely by the larger minute and hour hands (from 9:30 to 10:30 the timer is almost useless). Overall, I'm very happy to have *finally* found a watch with some style that isn't so friggin' huge it looks like a I'm wearing an SUV.

Top notch value
You can't beat the quality for the price on this one. I love the watch. It's very comfortable, light weight, and the perfect average all around size. It goes from a more military sport look with the supplied band, to a more sophisticated everyday watch look with an inexpensive black leather band. The band supplied isn't small as some have said, it's that the hole placement makes it so it won't fit larger wrists. I have small wrists, normally wearing the second to last whole on a standard leather band, and I was using the 3rd to last whole on the supplied band. At first I liked the band, it was comfortable and gave it a sporty look, but after putting a black leather band on it, the watch really shines. This can be done for little cost, and I found one at the local department store for less than a Hamilton. The minute dial for the chornograph is hard to read, and when a hand is over it, even harder. However, the chornograph isn't really meant to be used for anything serious (no milisecond timing), so it works for general timing. I use it when I run chemicals in my hot tub, and it works great for that type of application. The 24 hour dial is pointless in my opinion, but this seems to be something a lot of less expensive watches use on the mini dials. The face itself is not a jet black like in the pictures, but more of a flat black, giving it an extremely dark charcoal grey look. This isn't a bad thing, it actually gives it more character. The glow-in-the-dark hands get extremely bright after being in direct sunlight, but settle down after a few minutes. I've worn it while sleeping and use it to check the time at night since my vision without contacts is poor and I can't even read the digital clock 12 inches away, and I've been able to read this in the dark in the middle of the night, so the glow lasts long enough for the duration of the evening. I've had it underwater and hit the crystal on a few surfaces already, and there are no leaks (as expected from a name like Citizen), and not a single mark of any type on the crystal. I set it to the atomic clock when I first received it, and it hasn't lost a second yet (about 3 weeks). All this, and a 5 year warranty from an excellent watch manufacturer make this one of the best values for a watch you can get.

Great Military or Sport Watch
I got this watch from Amazon just over two weeks ago. I bought it at a very good discount from retail after reading many of the Amazon customer reviews. The watch looks sporty in an everyday wear kind of way, it's not sheek or elegant as it is sold as a sport watch and that's what it is. The numerals are painted in white that do not glow, however, the reverence dots around the dial do glow as do all the hands, the luminecence lasts a pretty long time. The crystal seems a bit thin, although I did slightly bang it 2 or 3 times with no scratch, cracking or sign of trauma of any sort. The two buttons operate the chronograph which is measured by the red hand and the upper left 60 minute dial. You can only measure up to 60 minutes then the chron stops and resets. Also, the 60 minute dial is quite small and somewhat hard to read. This chronograph is intended to measure elapsed time when preciseness is not so important, basically just an approximation such as a parking meter or the timing of a boring staff meeting. One positive, the movement of your hand and arm should not accidently trigger the chronograph to start or stop unintentionally, I actually tried to make it do so by bending my hand up toward my wrist but was unable to activate the chron. I think this is due to the strategically placed crown guard. My watch has only gained 1.5 seconds in the 17 days I've had it, I've worn it everyday in what I would consider normal conditions. I like the 24 hour dial at the upper right, and for those folks who are sticklers for the hands matching up with the reference points, this watch makes the grade, the 24 hour hand included. The green nylon and leather backed band gives the watch a very military style. You will have to want a watch with such a band to keep it, otherwise, like me you'll want to swap it out with a more traditional leather band. The lugs measure 20mm, but I put a 22mm that squeezed on just fine. The watch case is exactly 38mm not including the crown or guard, for me that is the PERFECT size. The watch seems to have a style in which just about any sport band placed on it would look good, black or brown. The case is a brushed stainless steel EXCEPT for the narrow bezel which is glossy so it keeps that sporty or military look. I recommend this watch if it meets your criteria, style and personality. It is worth the $135.00 price and I have no regrets buying it whatsoever. The only real improvement I might suggest if Citizens came to me, would be the seemingly thin crystal.

My main watch when I'm not wearing a suit or a smart watch *11* years later! UPDATE
[See below for long-term updates, 11 years!] And in all of the time that I've owned it (EDIT: Year+ or so), I've only ever had to change the calendar date (for those months which don't have 31 days), and for daylight savings. This thing is accurate, easy to read, and with the solar panel in the face, I have no fear of having to change the battery. The crystal is pretty durable too, I have only very fine chips along the other-most edges, with no noticeable (read deep or distracting) scratches. I haven't been beating the hell out of it, but I haven't been ginger either. The glow in the dark numbers stay very readable in the dark with just room light, better from sunlight. One thing, the band has grommets in the openings for the size holes, so I suggest you search for a separate band (like any of the 20mm Zulu 2 Ring Nylon Watch Straps, which is what I'm currently using). I replaced the stock band within the first week, that's my only complaint. UPDATE: OVER 4 years later, still have the same watch, and all features work perfectly :) It has scratches and a few minor dings, but nothing serious, and I only replaced it with a Pebble Time Steel because I wanted a smart watch. This Citizen is going as strong and accurate like the day I bought it. I STILL only have to update the time during Daylight Savings, and the calendar when I leave months that don't have 31 days - that's it! It keeps time really well. Never had a battery issue. Go solar! It's worth it. :) UPDATE 2: Still going strong, but I think the battery took a hit when it wasn't exposed to light for over a few months, I have noticed the overall capacity is less, but it's still so easy to charge in daylight, that it's still very usable, still accurate, still works! I had to reset the 0 point for the chronograph when I dropped it from a really high height, a manual for another Citizen chronograph give me the answer I needed to reset it, it's too long to post here but if your watch doesn't 0 when resetting the chronograph, good news, you can fix it yourself! Love this watch and bought another Citizen as a dressier formal watch that's also Eco Drive. :) UPDATE 3, Almost 11 years later... STILL WORKS! Still charges! Still keeps time REALLY WELL! :D

Citizens United
I must agree with the other reviewers here at Amazon: this is a nice watch and a good value for the money. I must confess as well that this watch does give me "charge anxiety." I live in a dark first-floor studio in Manhattan without much direct sunlight. I have been placing this watch under a table lamp with a compact fluorescent bulb for two hours or so before I go to bed and another two hours or so in the morning. In addition, I leave the watch on a windowsill, where I get a half an hour of direct sunlight around lunchtime. And when the sun is out, I have been wearing it while I get about a half-hour of sun in the park a day. So far, the watch has been running fine. When it is losing its charge, the second hand in the little dial at the six o'clock position jumps in two-second increments to warn you to charge the watch. This happened only on the first day I received the watch, after having charged it for two hours in a small dressing room lit by a CF bulb on the ceiling. Still, Citizen reminds you that if you wear long sleeves, that will prevent the watch from charging while you wear it. So I'm wondering how this watch will run in the dead of winter, when I won't be sunning in the park and I might be wearing long-sleeved sweaters or coats. We will see... In the meantime, I can tell you that the watch looks better in person than in the photo on this page. The stainless steel body has a brushed finish around the sides with a polished ring around the crystal. The luminescence of the hands is very bright, and it is very easy to read the time in all lighting conditions. I have not found the watch strap to be as short as others have reported; it seems to be about the same length as the straps on my other watches. The grommets around the strap holes make the watch very easy to strap on. Because this is a quartz watch, it keeps perfect time, of course, and the chronometer movement -- which records seconds and minutes up to one hour -- works well. Finally the watch is rated as water-resistant to 10 BAR, which the instructions say make it suitable for wearing while swimming or snorkeling, but not deep-sea diving. About the only thing negative I can report is that the plastic film on the back of the watch was rather difficult to remove and left some gluey gunk, which I had to remove with paint thinner. Usually I find that these protective films are affixed these days with a static charge rather than glue. Nevertheless, this is a handsome and functional watch, very reasonably priced. Wrists up! PROS: * Very easy to read. * Quartz movement keeps perfect time. * No batteries to replace! * Charges on any kind of light, indoors or out. * Better-looking in person. CONS: * Charging ability in winter uncertain. * Hard to remove plastic film on watch back.

Great watch, will last for years!
Very nice high quality watch, it looks really great up close. The strap is good quality, but pretty short, but it's a good excuse to buy a few different colored NATO or ZULU straps and swap them out anyways. I kind of wish the red chronograph hand was the second hand and the chrono feature got pushed to one of the small dials, but that's ok. Still highly recommend this watch.

Nice watch with eco-drive for the price
Nice watch. Keeps good time, no bells and whistles. Had to leave it in the light for a bit to get a charge at first when I bought it or else it would die, but it hasn't died since and I've had it approximately 8 months now. I b ought this watch to wear casually and it suits my needs perfectly.
