These are great speakers for a relatively small room (the room I put these in is about 14x14). They sound much better than I expected, especially considering the price these are being sold for. I was very skeptical about buying these, but couldn't afford the $400 for the Energy speakers that I wanted. So I settled for these, and I'm not disappointed at all in my decision. I paired these with an Onkyo HT-RC360 and, after about 2 hours of tweaking the sound, couldn't be happier. The included speaker wire is very thin, so plan to spend a few extra dollars for at least 16-gauge wire. The sub is powered, and is more than sufficient - it throws a lot of bass for its size. It sounds pretty decent with streaming music too, but it really shines when watching movies with a 'bright' soundtrack, that typically accompanies movies with lots of action sequences. I also hooked up a Playstation 3 to the receiver...the soundtrack on Gran Turismo 5 is like night and day...simply amazing, compared to when it was hooked up directly to the TV, with the sound coming from the TV speakers. It's true that you get what you pay for. There are better-sounding speakers out there, but for the price and capability, you cannot beat these at this price point...especially if your intent is to watch movies; and not as an audiophile, listening to music mainly with a critical ear on the musician's performance. Highly recommended if you meet the following criteria: 1. Have a relatively small room (14x14) 2. Plan to pair with a decent receiver, for the purpose of watching movies mainly (and playing games), while listening to music on occasion via streaming Audio, connecting an iPod, etc. 3. A budget of $140 (this includes the speakers and 2 spools of 16-guage wire, at 14 dollars a spool) The package arrives very well-packed, and the speakers themselves are contained in a plastic housing, but substantial. I mounted the satellites on Atlantic speaker stands. The satellites are light enough that you can mount on the stands with double-sided tape, and still have a very secure mount. As with any set of speakers, it is critical that they are all positioned and calibrated correctly, so that you get optimum performance from them. Expect to spend at least 3-4 hours: 2 hours to unpack, position the speakers, strand speaker wire, and connect; and another 1-2 calibrating distance, and volume, to your preference. 5 stars for price, quality, and value.

I am writing this review after my first evening of thoroughly enjoying these speakers: Since getting a Smart TV, we were using a very good soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. And I must say that I was basically satisfied with the sound it gave us. It was certainly superior to the pathetic sound attempted by the TV's built-in "speakers." But I wanted to graduate from a soundbar to surround sound. I hesitated for days before ordering these speakers. In spite of the the 4 and 5 star reviews this System received from most of the current 532 reviewers, I could not get past how "cheap" the speakers looked in the picture. DO NOT MAKE THAT SAME MISTAKE. The photo that accompanies this item does NOT do the System justice! The speakers are much more attractive when you see them, than the photo would lead you to believe. I will say this... they are smaller than I expected, but what they lack in size, they MORE THAN make up for in terms of bringing the sound of a Movie Theater right into my living room! The sound is clear, crisp and powerful. The bass is deep and rich and delivers EVERYTHING I could possibly ask for in terms of the kind of sound I want to accompany the movies and programming I watch. When things are blowing up on screen, and the orchestra's score is raising the roof, Yamaha's 5.1 Speaker System absolutely delivers! We have a rectangular living room. The TV is in the center of one of the long sides of the room, with 8' of space on either side to the opposite walls. Now, instead of sound (from the soundbar) coming just from the width of the TV, the entire room is filled with a crescendo of various sounds coming from all directions. These speakers transport me INTO the scene. It is quite incredible, and very satisfying! Are you worried about the speakers' looks? their size? their cost? Relax! These are Yamaha Speakers!! With the very minor exception of having to swap out the included wiring (going from 18? Gauge to 14 Gauge) I am completely satisfied with this purchase FAR beyond my highest expectations! There is only one way you can appreciate what I am hearing: Buy them! You will NOT be sorry!

Been using these for over a month now with great results. Very good sound, especially for the price. The manual adjust on the subwoofer is nice too for when you want to dial the bass up or down on the fly. If you're looking for a solid 5.1 system that doesn't break the bank, this is it

Items arrived a couple of days late but was the fault of FedEx.Had purchased a new Yamaha Home Theatre Rx but never worked well with my old speakers so purchased and installed the 1800 system. Now all is well and very pleased with the sound.Only problem is my dog is not pleased with the subwoofer-works great.
