We are absolutely smitten with this set. Yes, it's hand made - can you imagine the hands that made it? The dice rolling cups even have the brand stamped onto the bottom of it. The checkers are a tad bit light but overall it's a pretty amazing set for a truly remarkable price - and looks good just sitting out on your ottoman or table. Will definitely be giving this as a gift this holiday season :0)

I wanted a small game set to take along in the mornings to play backgammon with the other old duffers at the coffee shop, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. Most of the inexpensive sets I found were cheap vinyl covered cardboard with plastic checkers and cardboard dice boxes. I saw this little set on your website and both the price and the size appealed to me, so I ordered it. I ordered it with another item so the freight was free, and I figured at that price I couldn't go too far wrong. It showed up all packed in a styrofoam lined box and when I unpacked it I was totally blown away... What a beautiful game set... coffee table quality! Everything about it was first rate from the beautiful wood inlay board down to the genuine wood dice boxes. A first rate backgammon game set at a very reasonable price that should give years of service.

This backgammon set is considerably better than your cheapo, children's, cardboard Economy Backgammon type set, but the dice are not fair.My friend and I were looking for a good, inexpensive backgammon set to play on, but didn't want those cheap kids games. This was very modestly priced and is fantastic quality for the price. Some others have said it seems a little cheap, but it's not (bear in mind that you aren't paying for a leather bound, marble chip set with dice made of gold and silver). The board and chips are made of wood and has a nice design. The chips are light; they slide easily into place and can be picked up in groups easily. The surface is rather slick, so dice with pointy will sometimes slide instead of rolling over.The one thing I don't like is the dice that came with it. The paint started to smear immediately and they are funny looking - especially the 1 pip side. Plus, the dice are different sizes and the two players' colors are very close (there's a slightly off-white pair and a slightly more off-white pair). After playing for a while, I started to suspect they were not fair. My friend and I - we are graduate math students - ran a chi-square test with 150 rolls on each die and we determined with a 95% confidence level - that means we are really, really confident - that the dice are not fair. So we are using some dice from a cheapo economy board game.Bottom line is that you cannot get a better backgammon set for a price like this, but you should obtain alternate dice.

Just the size board I was looking for. The wood inlays are nicely done. The only drawback is that the magnets used to hold the board shut are a little weak. Either stronger or 3-4 total magnets should suffice. The checkers are made out of light wood to keep the weight down but I replaced them with faux granite ones.

Let me start by saying that overall I've been a happy customer with my past YMI purchases. They offer generally hard to find items in the USA (like go stones) at good prices. However I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the backgammon set I received. Its very possible that its just a QC issue with mine, but here is the rundown:Pros:- Nice material overall, decent weight but not too bulky.- Patterns on the wood are pleasing and not much in the way of obvious knots, etc.- The deep contrast on the pip marks is nice. I'm not sure what the actual wood type is but its a very nice contrast in both color and grain and makes for a beautiful playing surface.Cons:- The actual playing area of the board is about 11.5-12 inches deep, not 13. I'm not sure if the standard way to measure backgammon boards counts the border thickness, but based on how this one is measured I wish they had a "piano lacquer" set at 15 inches.- The pieces are very plain, and two white pieces had some deep dents on one side.- Would have been nice if the dice cups were a bit deeper. They look nice but its too easy to shake die out of them by accident.- The dice are HORRIBLE (cheap, light, uneven, different sizes). DO NOT PLAY WITH THEM. As another reviewer said, there is no way these are rolling fair. Pick up some small dice separately or grab some extras from another game in your collection.- Board is glued together which is normally fine, but there are places in the seams where the glue is obviously visible because they used too much. I may end up taking an exact-o knife to it.Overall its an okay set but the accessories are lacking in comparison to the overall beauty of the wood and finish. The glue being visible along seams is unfortunate and I would have expected better. If you replace the dice and if the glue wasn't visible I'd be very happy with this purchase because there is nothing on its own that is majorly wrong with this set, but the little things all add up. For a little more money I think you can probably get much better.

I am very impressed with this backgammon board set. For the inexpensive price I paid one would assume I spent far more for this purchase. Very unique looking and great to play the game on. Ok, so the dice are small. It is only dice. I am happy with my find and it will be great to take with us on vacation. A really good deal.

This board has served us well for about a year of frequent use, and has advantages over a few other boards I have bought / played on. The pieces fit snugly from edge to edge when all six spaces are occupied. The board and pips are flat so that sliding pieces across the wood finish works beautifully. It's relatively light for its size, and to top it off, it looks nice. Very satisfied with purchase, especially at 29.99 (32.69 with tax).
