Can these be used without screwing them in?

They can be yes, I have fixed the magnetic plate onto glass with epoxy resin adhesive, such as Araldite

1/2 inch and hangs below a shelf and holds up large drop down cupboard door only needed one

I am looking for door magnets with a 50mm hole spacing. What product do I need?

Hello, we will recommend this one to you, door magnets 10kg pull. Product Links: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MMQDY92

How wide is the screw hole section?

I have used various different options of this product so I’m not sure which ones the question refers to. The ones used on my last project were 20 kg pull strength so quite chunky. I’m guessing the hole centres are approximately 40mm. They are very strong and excellent quality Hope this helps I could have a look at the installation and confirm the precise measurement if you like.
