Starting slow and that's good
The fever over a new Ultimate Spider-man is now over and we can get down to business. Miles is a good fit in the Ultimate Universe to be Spider-Man in a way it wouldn't work over in the "regular" universe. They tried replacing Peter with Ben Reilly (was he or was he not the clone...he was) and chickened out when the fanboys went beserker rage. Too bad as ol Pete was getting long in the tooth with too many titles and too much back story to keep track of. Ben Reilly could have been a new beginning...oh that's old news and who cares? We're talking about the Ultimate Universe here. Don't get me wrong, I liked Peter Parker here, was saddened when I heard Bendis was going to kill him off, but this Peter too had gathered quite a bit of moss in the over 10 years since his debut. He got a hero's send-off and hey, it's comics OK?Miles seems like a good kid though the coincidence of his uncle being the Prowler is a bit much (deep breath...it's just comics). I'm enjoying him stretching his legs, his getting..sort of..approved by the powers that be with a new Spider-Man uniform that still pays tribute to the old without being a direct copy. He needs the webs though and I'm sure that won't be too far down the road. He also needs the tragedy to really set him down his path and I guess it's going to be a question of who. Mom, Dad, Uncle Prowler. It's got to be one of them and if I had to gather a guess it'll be his Mom.Still haven't talked about this book. It was a good story with some funny bits (Prowler getting busted in Mexico because the Tinkerer's suit apparently doesn't have unlimited blasts), some drama (Prowler forcing Miles to fight), and some shock (bringing Aunt May and Gwen back into the story). I can't wait to see what Bendis puts this poor kid through next.

Filling Big Shoes
Miles Morales is the new Spider-Man in the works and has no clue on how to use his powers or what to do. Miles has the potential to be a great hero in his own right but this book is so frustrating to read for one simple reason. Why does S.H.E.I.L.D never learn anything. With the death of the original Spider-Man and with the training that they wanted to give Peter you would think and Nick Furry would step in and personally handle the growth of the new Spider-Man. That does not seem to be the case here. Miles is trying hard to gain control of his powers on his own by hands on, or videos that his best friend brings him. The lecture that Furry gave him and the Ultimate's approval seems to be a waste. This book does have it moments and those moments are with Miles him self as he struggles in deciding tell his parents the truth, making sure he excels in school, and to top it off his uncle a super villain knows his identity and wants to train him. Miles has the making to be a great character as long as he does not come off as a rehash of Peter. His super hero career should be different than Peters and I hope that Bendis does him justice.

Excellent story
Love the other side of the inner city aspect of this story. The worrisome mom praying her kid isnt sent to a drop out factory. They even have some of the slang down. What im not sure of is the age of Peter Parker but Im still reading it. Cause the way they portrayed it ....He was still young himself when Spider-man should be old as balls. Either way alternate universe or whatever its an excellent story and Im going to follow this story line. Got mine on kindle and it looks great.

Mail man jacked up the spine.
I bought this shortly after purchasing volume one in person. I have yet to read it but when it arrived it had a small bend at the spine. No big deal but I'm a Virgo, what are you gonna do? Other than that great product, can't wait to read it. Miles Morales is such a well written character and I love seeing the differences between him and Peter Parker, right down to hiding his identity where he lives. (He stays in a dorm with two other boys and only one knows he's spiderman) I'm rambling but anyway I reccomend these comics to any web head.

Miles
I love Miles as Spider-Man. I love the fact he is finding out what he can do and he is not afraid to help where it is needed. Good book. Great art.

Miles and Bendis for the Win
Big fan of this series and happy with the direction Marvel decided to take with the Ultimate series. The original purpose was to reinvent characters for a modern age and fan base, what a great way to do so by starting from scratch. In Volume 2 you see more of Miles learning about his powers and dealing with different yet similar issues Peter Parker dealt with as far as keeping a secret identity and how to manage beating various foes. Some secrets are hard to hide and even your own family may be your worse foe.....

It's a steep learning curve
Miles Morales is certainly taking his new role as Spider-Man very seriously. This is him finally going out there with his awesome costume and making a name for himself as the new Spider-Man. Problem is he needs training...lots of training. But Miles might not get a choice in who trains him and that could be bad news. This volume is about his first few attempts at saving the day and finding out what he's really capable of. No doubt he has a long way to go but he sure is getting the hang of it, especially with the extra powers Peter didn't have. Which is what I love about this book, he is in no way Peter Parker and the villains are having to find that out the hard way even though they all say "NO, NOT YOU AGAIN!". With a fantastic team of artists you just won't want anyone else near this series. The art is top notch with Pichelli and Marquez, Samnee's couple of issues weren't bad but doesn't quite fit the style Pichelli has set. Miles Morales is still an exciting new Spider-Man with stories that have me coming back for more and I bet you will be too.

Getting there
I am impressed with the developments of the new spider man and i have witnessed how he is now adjusting to his new powers and his new life at the charter school. However i do not like the art in the first 2 issues but they have gotten better afterwards. I would recommend it as it's a good and enjoyable read on a different spiderman.
