An Elegant, Simple, and Durable Blade
Lightweight, durable, inexpensive, and deadly sharp right out of the box, Cold Steel's addition of the Scimitar to their Spike line has resulted in one of the best all-purpose knives I've been able to wrap my hands around. Being formed from nearly a single (thick) chunk of Japanese AUS 8A steel with the only part that is not molded being the screw-on glass breaker at the end of the hilt, the blade has proved itself in standing up to a lot of abuse in the short time that I've owned it..... A LOT of abuse. Since it's lightweight, easily concealable due to its sleek and narrow design, extremely easy to handle in either normal or reverse-hand grips, and after very little work, its ability to shear jerky and other forms of meat with little effort without reducing the edge's overall durability for various other tasks, I've used the Scimitar for everything I've needed a blade for since I've got it. Best part, for a knife that costs less than $40, it dominates most of my other knives (some of which range in the hundreds and/or are handmade) in its simplicity.Simply, the Scimitar Spike is a high quality blade at a ridiculously low cost with the added bonuses of being easy to carry and honed for everyday use. And let's face it: it's the pure definition of raw and elegant simplicity.

Great quality
Like all in the spike series, this is a limited use knife. This is not something that you take camping with you. This is something that you take the fight to someone with. The curved grip and blade make the knife a great slash and stab combo knife. The small ball as as the pommel can be used for pressure points or an attention getter. The only down I have about these knives is that the sheath, while solid and keeps the knife tight, is difficult to fit to gear or practical mounting. An integral clip or at least something other than random holes to use for paracord would be a great advantage.

Good knife for the price
Consider this rating to be a 3.5.Positive experience with the seller. Arrived a day before promised deadline. No complaints there. Now on to the knife itself...Pros:1. Great price for decent steel2. Ok sheath3. Mean point. Excellent for slashing4. Solid no gimmick basic knifeNegatives.1. This knife does not come razor sharp. It comes sharp enough to be useful2. The shape of the knife does not lend it easy on cutting tasks. Unlike what someone wrote, I would not use this as a kitchen knife. You can use it for cutting a fruit though (something any knife like object is capable of).3. The length of this knife would make it illegal to carry in almost all but a few states. And it is just too long to be a neck knife really IMO.4. The metal chain thingy this knife comes with is less than useless and I have not found any other decent way to carry it (too small to carry on belt IMO).5. The handle on this thing is awkward. It is too small for a larger than average sized hand. For smaller hands, it will fit but it is like gripping a chopstick. You can get around it by being creative with a paracord though.6. The reverse side does not have an edge but is still sharp and you might have a real tough time arguing its not double edged with the cops, trouble.

Scimitar Spike by Cold Steel, sold by Reds Gear
This is my second Cold Steel Spike knife. I previously bought a Talon Spike which is currently discontinued by Cold Steel. Both of these knives are deadly sharp. I'm not sure how soft the metal is, but it is stainless steel, so you can't expect it to be as hard as a high-carbon steel. Both of these knives are excellent for personal protection. Nothing fancy, just a really sharp and strong little knife, great for stabbing and slashing. The Scimitar Spike, with the positive curve to its blade (its "belly") should be better for slashing than the Talon Spike, with its slightly negatively curved blade. However, if someone gets slashed with either of these knives, that individual is going be in big trouble. You need to be extremely careful pulling the Spike from its sheath to avoid cutting yourself. Practice withdrawing the Spike many times. You don't want to slash yourself before you've had a chance to go after the bad guy.I ordered my Scimitar Spike from Reds Gear on Amazon.com Marketplace. That was the cheapest way to go. I ordered it during the evening of 10 May, cheapest shipping. It was supposed to arrive 16-19 May. It got here 13 May. Great job Reds Gear! When I first saw the Talon Spike at the Nellis AFB BX, I was amazed that such a wicked looking little knife could be legal! I had never seen anything like it.When I say these knives are deadly, I mean that literally. Be careful! If you treat these things like toys, someone is going to get seriously hurt. If you go after someone with this knife, that person will probably die. If it isn't self-defense, you'll be guilty of murder.

Very nice!
My boyfriend originally bought this for his cousin, but he ended up keeping it for himself. However, it wasn't just because its a very nice blade. The knife was very hard to get out of the sheath. My boyfriend had to put a piece of cardboard in between when both sides of the sheath was connected, so we could take the the knife out. The knife itself is absolutely stunning, very sharp, and the handle is very nice, no problems with the knife. Just the sheath. All in all still happy with purchase.

Heavy duty steak knife with a sweet handle!
Pretty neat looking albeit a softer metal and not for any heavier use than eating steak out of a leather jacket.
