Does not work with my Canon speedlites
Suffers from the notorious "flash once and never again" issue. Tried it with 430EX and 600EXRT flashing to each other with and without the camera (5DM2), strobes in manual, switch thrown to "lightning" or "redeye". Always same result -- flash once, and not again till power cycle on receiving flash. Obviously this makes them pretty much useless. Not sure how the others are claiming they got it to work with their Canons.

cannot get it to flash at same time as my camera
i have tried to use it with a canon430ex speedlite. cannot get it to flash at the same time as my canon 40d. it has an adjustment but cannot find the setting that works with my camera flash speed.

It works but difficulty with Sony Nex
I got this to experiment with the flash from from my Sony Nex 5N. I am only able to effectively sync an off-camera flash with this with minimum shutter speeds of 1/20. Any less than that then the red-eye correction kicks in and this will trigger the flash less consistently.I guess if you want this to work with the Sony Nex, there should be some experimentation and learning involved before you can effectively use it.

Very useful, works with my 430ex II
I got this specifically to work with my 430ex II and so far it works like a charm. I have been using this to trigger it while I have my einstein with whatever modifier attached as the main and this becomes the fill.I used this for the first time yesterday on a shoot and I've been really happy with the results. So far I haven't had any misfires at all. Granted it is triggered by any other flash going off at the same time but I'm fine with that. It was either spend the 15 on this here or blow 4 times that on another receiver for my system. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that the casing on it is kind of weak in my opinion. It hasn't broken on me at this point but I will be sure to be careful with it.Pros:Works like it is supposed to!adjustability works nicely as wellworks with red eye reduction flashes as well.cons:why aren't their any instructions....???Could be built a little more study. And I came back to order some more of these but it seems that they are out of stock all of a sudden, that's a bummer!!!!!

Works well with a Sony NEX-3 and a Canon 580EX II
The SYK-5 works well to trigger a Canon 580EX II with the built-in flash on the Sony NEX-3. I turned the delay to minimum based on reading someone else's blog. The switch was set the "eye" setting.I also tested it on with a 5D Mark II with a 430EX on the hot shoe of the camera and a 580EX II as the slave. I set the 430EX to manual mode and lowered the power to the minimum setting 1/32. The SYK-5 was attached to the 580EX II and set to manual with power at 1/4. The switch on the SYK-5 had to be in the "lightning" setting for it to work. I tried a few delay settings and they all worked.

Very poor
Fell apart before I even got to use and didn't want to hassle with returning it. Super cheap construction!!!

SYK-5 Compatibility with Canon Cameras
The Seagull SYK-5 does trigger the Canon Speedlite flashes but it is not compatible with Canon Cameras. Reading dpreview.com indicates that is also true for other users. The flash is not in sync with the shutter, apparently no delay options is correct for Canon's pre-flash.

Three Stars
Did not work well for me, but it may have been a user error.
