The Waldorf Blofeld is still relevent and sounds amazing!
Bought this brand new and received it quick. I love the sounds and the product itself. I've had zero problems with it.

I am Blown-feld away! ;)
My first Waldorf, and it blew away my expectations. The thing is a sound powerhouse! I don't have the sample upgrade or anything, but I am more interested in the wave-table aspects of it. Love the comb filter btw.Definitely something I will have in my collection for a long time.

Dead On Arrival
Reading a lot of reviews online, I was skeptical when purchasing this synth due to the long list of issues reported by others (faulty encoders, screen issues, etc). I took the risk because I love the sounds this synth provides. It would’ve been great to hear just once in person but instead the Blofeld I received never powered on. Not a single flicker of a light. Not sure how this left the factory without anyone checking if it powers on. Now I have to go through the hassle of returning this item....I never leave Amazon reviews but this is not acceptable. I have ordered a replacement in hopes that they get it right this time. Fingers crossed!

Versatile synth / Update, why three Stars?
Was quite impressed by the warmth of the bass sounds. Other nice evolving "pad" textures. Still trying to learn the layout... especially the "multi". The unit did freeze on me a couple of times... I probably did something stupid or too quickly.Update: After spending a little time with this unit I have reduced the Star rating to three. While I stand by my previous comments (it is very nice)the unit is exhibiting the same issue of "digital clipping" that another buyer had mentioned. Also - some sounds (patches) are not loading correctly... many are completely silent. The only way that I can hear anything is to go into the sound and edit it. This has nothing to do with the pitch or mod wheel input. I am probably returning this for an exchange. It's still that good.

fabulous sound... there's issues though
This synth is truly one of a kind. It's been built after the legendary Waldorf Q and Waldorf microQ.Pros:The Device: Very good looking. Stainless steel endless dials and a full metal chassis. Who doesn't think it's hot?Sound: Phat at sometimes but very edgy. It doesn't have the watery sound of the Virus that I was looking for. That being said it has a very unique character. The sounds are rock solid but at the same time not in the sense of being overwhelmingly harsh. The sound is organic, not artificial at all, but the synth has an artificial touch to it I can't quite put my finger on. A very unique sound. Sounds one heck of a lot better than any VST on the market, that's for sure, but I guess the same applies for all hardware synths.Oscillators: Has all 4 basic waveforms (saw, square, pulse, and sine). Has adjustable pulse width modulation for the square wave to create pulse waves. You have the ability to use OSC3 as an FM source for other oscs making the sound really grungy.Only con would be that there's no sub-oscs, and the osc section has combined noise and unison. I'd think I'd want to adjust all of those per each individual oscillator, but in terms of this synth, it would be most likely against nature. Also has wavetables and with the new OS, you can add your own.Filters: Very organic sound, and basically unlimited modulation capabilities to anything in the synth. Just hear this thing with a pad sound, fabulous. Multiple filter slopes available, and you can even have a comb filter and notch filter (unheard of on a lot of synths).Modulation: Has a few LFOs which can oscillate at quite a high rate if you need an extra source of that FM grunge, I would recommend using those as a last resort if you don't have a free oscillator. Several modes including all the basic waveforms and a 'random' mode which is quite weird. The modulation matrix supports up to 16 slots of modulation goodness, completely editable and customizable. Not much else there, but there's a lot of options for modulation.FX: Plenty of stuff including phaser, chorus, delay and clocked delay (provided your DAW is sending MIDI tempo sync). They sound fabulous. Use the delay for more of a stereoized feel. The only effect I would complain about is the reverb, which in my opinion is ok but kinda meh...Cons:Multimode: Synth supports up to 16 sounds you can use in 'multimode' (this is good considering the Virus only supports up to 4 I believe). Only issue is that you can't save a multimode preset or sounds in each multimode 'slot'.OS: Last update was a beta version. A lot of things fixed, but a lot still quite broken in the OSC. That being said Waldorf is a small company, so getting stuff updated must be difficult at times.Customer Support: Pretty erratic. Waldorf's support is good, but the problem is that the consistency is an issue. Sometimes it may take a while to reply, while other times they may get back to you in a couple of days, etc.Sample SL: If you wanna take advantage of the 60mb of sample memory on this device, you have to buy Sample SL, which is extra off of the Waldorf website.Ports: Only MIDI in, not MIDI Out or Thru (it's not a keyboard)... but no audio in, which is killer. You can't take advantage of Waldorf's great filters and FX... which are paramount to the synth.Overall:This is good, and if you don't mind the technicalities and short term limitations of the thing, I'd recommend you buy it.

Great Virtual Analog Module
The Waldorf Blofeld is a fierce virtual analog/wavetable synth with a powerful multi mode for serious studio use and live performance. I bought this synth over 10 years ago for a tour I was asked to play on. What I love so much about the Blofeld for what I use it for is its multi mode which allows key ranges or even just one note to specify a particular patch while leaving certain notes blank. For instance I have one shot synth sounds with mod wheel control that I trigger by slamming my hand on a D or G#. All the keys trigger but because the range is set to one note, only the single key voice sounds and of course you can pitch the keys up and down so that you don’t just play D or G#. Also the synth UI is very intuitive and programming sounds is a breeze. The sound engine gets VERY deep but, if you spend time with it, you get accustomed quickly. For that first tour I did, I programmed my sounds quickly recreating the sounds off the record even though I didn’t yet KNOW the sound of the Blofeld. It reacts as it should with so many options given wavetables and the mod matrix. The built in effects are excellent as well. I have read about people slamming the reverb but I totally love it. The sample option is very cool as well for loading user sample content in the oscillators and I fully intend to tour again with this primarily as a sample playback machine with added synth shaping control. Waldorf has a reputation and, with the Blofeld, they once again deliver.
