History of the World Review: Multiple Uses - I found this book at another bookseller but needed extra copies, hence my desertcart purchase of this title. THE WHO WAS: HISTORY of the WORLD, by Paula K. Manzanero, is my additional text with ESOL students in my zoom class. First, a reasonable cost, so that I could afford a copy for each student. Second, even though my students are adults, the format & vocabulary were sufficient w/out being too childish. Next, they & I liked the coverage of history from ancient cultures through very present events: Asia, Europe, the Americas, the USA, Africa, & the Middle East. Each event covers two pages (hence it is selective, but objectively balanced) w/a running timeline at the bottom of each page, throughout the book, of persons, discoveries, events, developments, wars...great highlights of well-known & lesser known history. I learned history I didn't know as well as perhaps my students! It helped their vocabulary, was a good change from our text, & even will be a book for them to share in their families. I myself have given it as gifts to relatives already. I think it has a potential readership that spans many ages. Review: The History of the World deluxe edition - 9 yo great-grandson loves this book. He has a real interest in history and keeps this book at hand everyday. Great book for young minds!

"Fought from 1756 to 1763, the Seven Years’ War is considered to be the first true world war."
This book offers a quick/brief rundown of a series of highlights from history in, predominantly, a timeline format. There are a lot of 2-3 page entries that are nicely written, concise entries... I really like the way this book weaves in vocabulary lessons, using the words in context as well as explaining them. The timeline mentions when historical figures are born, then later they'll be referenced in an entry, providing a nice sense of "what happened during their life". All in all, a nicely done book.

Events. Not people. Still good.
I was kind of hoping it would be more about the historical figures throughout history, Since it is a "WHO WAS?" book, but it is about historical events and places. Which is fine, that stuff is great too. Either way, my daughter loves it, she's 7. There is a timeline that spans throughout the book with people and the year they were born. She pointed out Elton John and Amelia Earhart right away. Good book to add to the library.

We watch this show on netflix and she absolutely loves this book. Starting at 4.6 billion years ago, the timeline goes up until 2020 explaining different people and events in history. Brilliant book. Would recommend.
