Whitechapel, Spitalfields and the Bank 1873: London Sheet 063.1 (Old Ordnance Survey Maps of London)

For an old map, this is really clear. As others have noted the legend is very small, but a magnifying glass fixes that. For the first time I have found the alley which housed some of my ancestors and which was destroyed in the post-1875 slum clearance. And the 19p price for this map was unbelievable!

Find these maps absolutely fascinating. A lot of my ancestors moved from Devon to live in these areas because they appear to have worked in service. I love to find the old addresses to see just where they lived. Looking for similar maps for other areas of London.

As other reviewers said, this map is WAY too small to read. Even with reading glasses and a torch, there were still some bits I just couldn’t read. Neither could my husband - and he doesn’t even wear glasses for reading. However, I couldn’t find any other map of Whitechapel dating back to the late 19th century so I am glad I bought it.I will keep a look out still for a better one though.

Good cheap map of London but you will need a good magnifying glass or good eyes.

If you've found ancestors living in this area of London then this map will go along way to helping you understand the lifes of those ancestors. I have found them invaluable as many of these old London streets no longer exist. Also old os maps help you see who was living where in your family. Where you family neighbours with other members of your family? How far away from each other did they live? Old OS have really made my tree come alive. I can't recommend them enough.

This is a great resource - all the old streets are there (many of them long gone) - but the scale is tiny (or do I mean huge?) - anyway, what I mean is, it's very cramped and tiny so hard to read without a magnifying glass or very young eyes! Hence four stars rather than five.I'd happily pay twice as much for the same map printed twice as large.

The main problem with this map reproduction is the quality of the print. It is too light. Yes it is small and so a magnifying glass is useful (and I was aware of that from other reviews) but it's a poor reproduction. It's like a photocopy. Maybe I was expecting too much for the price.

It's a really good map. I do feel sorry, however, for the people who work for Amazon and who may well have had to process my order: 'like a prison' according to the national press 10/2/18
