Review: Very well made. Hard to find top quality leather ... - Very well made. Hard to find top quality leather shoes. These are full grain leather and quality construction. They are true to size but a little tight to put thick insoles in. Hopefully as they break in that will change. The leather is very stiff new and likely will take a bit to break in. After a week- still great and even better. A hefty coating of mink oil helped with the break in and A little kiwi parade shine and they look even better . Edit * 6+months later comfortable and still look new. A little shoe polish, and soles barely worn down. Can easily say will lay another year +z Review: Compared to Red Wings Beckman Oxford - I was looking for a classic pair of shoes that I could dress up with slacks for office wear or down with jeans for casual wear. I couldn't decide between these and the Red Wing Heritage Beckman Oxford,Black Featherstone,8 D US . Both have a similar look and are in a similar price range. I decided to order both and make the decision once I tried them both on. Both pairs are old style shoes. Tough leather, hard soles, no cushy insole. They were similar in most ways - the fit seemed true to size, the quality was very good, and the stiff leather would definitely need some breaking in. The biggest difference is that the Chippewa's have an all-rubber vibram sole and the Red Wings have a rubber-covered leather sole. The all-rubber sole is probably better for traction and insulation. I really wanted to keep the slightly less expensive Chippewas, but ended up liking the Red Wings better and will return these. The soles of the Chippewa shoes felt uncomfortably heavy to me. I probably would have made a different decision if I were spending a lot of time on a shop floor where the heavier sole might have been beneficial.

Very nice high quality American made recraftable casual shoe.
Ive had these shoes about a week and so far I really like them! To me they are super comfortable right out of the box and really did not require any breaking in; I also ordered them in my normal size and they fit perfect. The Tan renegade is really good looking and takes on a more golden brown in creases or areas of tension that is really magnified by the fact that these shoes are more of a boot leather that has some slight natural wrinkles to begin with, really nice. The cork composite soles are a little harder so they tend to make some noise when you walk, if you have downstairs neighbors do them a favor and take off your shoes, but only for them!

Buy something else
A very uncomfortable shoe out of the box. Maybe if you wore them and have feet made of iron they might be be okay and probably last forever.

Poor fit for my foot
Poor fit for my foot, very long, very narrow, very well made, little or no arch. Great sole and heel.

Review from a pessimist/realist
Let me say that at first I was very skeptical that these would both look good and be comfortable. I work in a research lab and these shoes are very comfortable if you need to stand for long periods of time, very durable/ tough if you need to do some mechanical work, but still look great and professional in case you run into someone important... I originally bought these shoes in the Cordovan color, which looks fantastic and broke in after about an hour of wear. I've had them for several months now and they are such a perfect mix of comfy, tough, but professional that I just had to get another pair (Tan Renegade). The tan color looks amazing, and it seems to actually be more copper in color that the image above depicts. It's starting to look even better as it breaks in. A couple of important notes: Theses shoes are crafted in the USA with USA hide (Horween Leather Co). I have a normal foot (11.5D) and my size in Chippewa was exactly one size smaller, and now the 10.5 fits like a glove. Finally, I did have to contact Chippewa customer service on a pair of boots I bought for the winter once and they were insanely helpful and quick to reply.

Literally like walking on NAILS
I really wanted to like these shoes. They look amazing out of the box and the Tan Renegade pullup leather is awesome (i.e. smells great, good thickness, awesome color); definitely could pass as Horween Chromexcel. The fit is TTS. I ordered a size 9 and for reference I am a size 9D in AE 5-last, 9 Chucks, and 9 Clarks DB. I also have Chippewa 1901M25 Cordovan Service Boots and the now want a pair in Tan Renegade. HOWEVER, on the first day I wore them I noticed my right heel and knee were starting to ache. By the end of the day my heel and knee were feeling painful. When I got home I noticed bumps sticking up out of the heel!!! (See pic) Those are the nails used to attach the heel to the shoe. I've been walking on nails the whole day. I emailed Chippewa Customer Service and they replied with the generic return policy. No offer to replace or repair the shoes, just return them to Amazon for inspection. My heel and knee were still sore the next day. So these shoes are going back and unfortunately my size is OOS. Too bad cuz they really are awesome. There are no issues on the left shoe and on my Cordovan Service boots.

Sturdy work shoe
I wanted a sturdy work shoe that could be re-soled if necessary after years of wear, unlike the typical glued on soles on so many of today's shoes.I have had Chippewa shoes in the past and like that they are made in America, and that they are of excellent quality.
