Overall, a good performing shoe for beginners, with a caveat
I picked up a pair of Sparks at REI last summer when I first started climbing. They performed admirably and they broke in well so the fit was far better than the rental shoes I had been using. I climbed 3-4 times a week, usually about 2-3 hours each session and could get by without taking them off. After a few months, the shoes stopped turning my toes green. The problem with these shoes is that they are synthetic so if you have sweaty feet (like me), you will eventually find that they smell terrible, even if you never left them in an enclosed space. Additionally, as a beginner climber, I had a habit of toe dragging, so one of the shoes formed a fairly large hole in the big toe after 7-8 months. The shoes are not worth resoling, so I went ahead and purchased a more technical shoe to replace these.I highly recommend getting something to cut down on the smell, be it Boot Bananas or cedar chips.I highly recommend them
