Born Free Sterilizer (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

I received this sterilizer as a gift from my registry. I intended to use BornFree bottles exclusively, but little did I know that my baby would not be a fan. He prefers the Dr. Brown bottles because the smaller nipple is easier to fit in his mouth. Well, the larger (taller) Dr. Brown bottles are too tall for this sterilizer. Therefore, I am going to try a more universal sterilizer, such as the Munchkin or First Years one. Also, I use a Medela pump, and the 4 oz Medela bottles always tip over in this sterilizer. I'm not sure it will be better with a different sterilizer though. Overall, unless you are strictly using BornFree bottles, I would suggest checking out another sterilizer. (Also the other sterilizers I am considering, the First Years and Munchkin ones, are cheaper. The price on this one is quite high.)

I had to order a replacement sterilizer because my husband accidentally melted the cover on our stove. While I was waiting for the new sterilizer to arrive I sterilized the bottles by washing them, putting them in a large metal mixing bowl, then pouring filtered boiling water into the bowl so that all of the bottles and parts were covered. This method seemed to work well. Once the replacement sterilizer arrived, I kind of felt that it was a waste of money. I still have it and use it, but it's really not a necessity.

So this item works, does the job, etc, but it's large and hard to store. You could make your own steamer at home to do the same job with just a bowl and a lid that you have laying around your kitchen. Unless you want your bottles piling up in the sink or sitting around your house, you have to have this out on your counter holding the bottles and it takes a lot of room. It also only holds four bottles, so I have to use it twice a day and it barely fits in a smaller microwave. If you are dead set on getting this then knock yourself out. It does what it is suppose to, but if you don't want to deal with a space issue and have a microwave safe bowl at home, just use that instead.

I loved this the first time I used it for my now 3 yo daughter. It is roomy (sterilized avent breast pump accessories, yoomi bottles and sippy cups and straws). The fact that it only sterilizes 4 bottles at a time doesn't bother me as it's done in 4-5 min. I also pack in a lot of accessories along with 4 bottles so that placates any reservation I might have otherwise. I simply reload if there are others to be sterilized and the product itself doesn't become "another" dirty dish to wash (as with pots) if rinsed and set out to dry after use.That all aside, can anyone remind me how much water to put in? I misplaced my manual and can't find instructions anywhere online. I know to microwave 4-5 min. I may just have to gauge it as to what I remember the levels to be when I used it in 2011. However, any help on exact amt of water is greatly appreciated.

THIS STERILIZER WAS EASY TO USE AND GAVE A SENSE OF SECURITY FOR CLEAN STERLIZED BOTTLES. GAVE UP THE AVENT AND BORN FREE BOTLES THOUGH AND WENT TO THE PLAYTEX DROP INS. MUCH LESS HASLE.

I didn't get one of these before I had my baby. However, when breastfeeding didn't work out and I was exclusively bottle-feeding, we were constantly boiling water to sterilize the bottles. We knew we had to get something that would make things easier--and take less time! This is a lifesaver!

My wife actually ordred this , I was skeptical @ first. This does a great job of sterilizing bottles & pacifiers not to mention a great time saver. Would recommend...

This is a waste of money. It is too bulky but doesn't hold very much. I recommend good old fashion boiling over this sterilizer.

This was the first microwave steriliser I have used so wasn't sure what to expect. However, I am really pleased with this product as it does the job perfectly. We use the Born Free bottles and teats so everything fits in neatly, but I am not sure how well it would work for other brands and sizes of bottles. It sterilisers 4 bottles at a time but this is fine - after 4 feeds it is time to wash and sterilise fresh bottles anyway! It even fits inside our compact microwave.
