Berkley x9 Braid Fishing Line

Great Lin... smaller diameter than most
Great line. smooth. casts well. strong. Zero issues. Have swapped out my Power Pro 15lb, 20lb, and 30lb with x9.The 20lb line is .007 in diameter. compare that to Power Pro 20lb @ .009 in diameter. Does not seem like much but that is about a 30% difference. which when casting, or casting with strong wind... of fishing thru strong currents... makes a noticeable difference. did to me anyway. My new go to line. The one negative is that the braids have become so thin it makes knot tying or seeing the knot tying a little challenging for older eyes.

Little pricey but you can fish with confidence
While the x9 braid I got is rated at 40 lb, its listed that its max break is 59 lbs. I tied the braid to an 80 lb copolymer leader with a 10 turn FG knot. On the leader I made a Kreh loop knot. I looped the braid end on a metal post a few times to simulate a reel and pulled on the loop with a spring scale to simulate a fish. The setup broke at the FG knot (its supposed to) within the turns in the knot @42 lbs (71 % of 59 pounds). There are some knot tests that rate FG knots at 80% of max break.Oh well. It broke beyond its stated rating.Good stuff. I would think the weak part of the reel, rod, and line setup now is the rod, if one is not careful.

BEST BRAID ON THE MARKET
will use nothing but Berkeley x9 during tourney season. I've won a lot of money with it, and it never disappoints. strong as heck, abrasive resistance is top notch, and you can cast it a mile!!!!

Non-branded PE and thicker than advertised!
First the positives... X9 also is very round and stays fairly round when compressed. Feels great in the hand and has enough body without being to rigid. Now the negatives... Berkley says this is PE line but apparently it isn't branded fiber such as "Spectra" and certainly not "Dyneema", which Berkley ProSpec is. I could be mistaken about this, but a lesser quality fiber would need to be thicker for the same strength. A rounder weave combined with thicker fibers could be the reason X9 is effectively much thicker in diameter than I expected. The label for 100lb test X9 says ABS is 131lbs. I would expected a line of this thickness to be closer to 200lbs ABS.

Casts far Better than Power Pro Slick
I've been using this line for 3 months now and am absolutely amazed. I surf fish with a variety of artificial lures and in numerous habitats, from small backwaters to long jetties. I love how far I'm able to cast with this line and how smooth it is. It doesn't even require finger protection while casting. I've only gotten 1 little knot that was easy to undo. I have this line in 8, 10, 15, and 20 pound test rigged on Shimano Ultegra, KastKing Sharky III, and Shimano Nasci with a variety of rods from a 6' Daiwa Aird inshore to a 9' Star Stellar surf. Much better than Power Pro Slick.

Mixed results
Superb casting distance with 16th oz trout magnet close to 50 yards if not a little more. However the line broke and frayed in fast water in yellow breaches.I am disappointed with the white line taking the brown tinge from the water. However it is not visible in the water column as I thought it would.I am going to continue to try the line for a little bit more before I go back to super 8 power pro or maybe a heavier line from this manufacturer.

Best braid IMO
I tried a spool of this on a well used Diawa baitcaster that has caught a ton of Bass over the years. I keep the bearings in good shape on all of my reels & have been using Power Pro.Now I'm liking the Berkley so much that I've respooled all of my reels with it. It seems to fly thru the guides so much better & feels silky smooth to the touch.First time out with the Berkley X9 I hooked a 4lb. largemouth way deep into a lilly pad island with a frog, thought for sure this would be a good test & the line might break while trying to pull the bass through the heavy vegetation but it held up just fine.

Game changer
Great casting, extremely small diameters great visability. Good knot strength, good abrasive resistance. I'm not a great fan of brade line. This is a game changer. I'll definitely purchase more. After using it I purchased more all my spinning reels now have this line. I'm very impressed.

Good and powerful fishing line. Excellent quality.
This fishing line wasn't looking good at the beginning and I haven't fit the reel with this line for a while. However, I've decided to give this product a chance and gone for trout fishing with this line on the reel. I was so surprised with the quality and smoothness of this line. Very good and solid on knots. So high breaking capacity with ultralight spinning rod gave me good ammunition for trout fishing. So, this fishing line now on 2 my fishing reels and I'm so happy with it.

Great braid!
I honestly expected less but this is a great line! I used spider wire stealth, fireline, nanofil, and now this in 6lb test and so far this one is the best for visibility and durability. Nanofil still casts better but it frays quickly. Fireline is probably stronger. As for spiderwire stealth, it's a cheap braid so it's inconsistent. This is a good braid so far, I will make an update when the season is over.
