Comedy About Manga Making Itself
Take an average stereotypical girl-likes-guy situation. Now throw in a bunch of troupes. If you know about the show/manga Ouran High, then you also are aware of how it was able to take these stereotypes and give them variations, twists, and background. The show/manga was a joke on those stereotypes and made it good. That's not very easy to do necessarily. But this manga (also show) did that.Meet Chiyo Sakura, your typical highschool student who begins to like the stone-faced Nozaki. Nozaki writes shoujo manga (manga appealing to girls/typically romance) and is quite well-known for his story that he publishes in a monthly magazine. It turns out all of the characters in his story are based off of real ones that the audience slowly is introduced to throughout the events of the story. Each character is interesting and has something that completely goes against what their stereotype is known to be.Another interesting aspect of this series is that it teaches the reader about how manga works without killing your brain. Since Nozaki "hires" his friends to help him out with his manga, the audience sees how the characters do their part such as the backgrounds, beta, shading, etc.Overrall, I laughed a lot with this manga and the show. I'd put this manga under the categories of . . . Slice of Life/Comedy/Slapstick/Gag. If you don't know either Ouran High or this, I recommend both if you like these genres!

Super fun!
This is a fun sweet story, that has me laughing a lot! It is set up more like a comic strip than most manga, but you get used to it. If you just want a light fluffy read that makes you smile, this is it. I've sense read the rest of the series that's out, and it stays solid all the way through. It also gives you a bit of a behind the scenes look at the making of manga, which is fun, too.

One of my favorites
I adore this series and was so happy to see that it had been picked up that I pre-ordered it to make sure I got it right away.Chiyo Sakura is head over heels in love with one of boys in her school. After finally getting the nerve to confess her feelings to him, he misinterprets her confession for admitting that she's a fan of his and hands her a signed autograph instead. Confused, she tries to correct the misunderstanding--only to be misunderstood again. Soon she finds herself back at his house doing beta work on his art--and discovering her crush is nothing like what she thought. Nozaki is a mangaka--and not just any sort of mangaka--a shoujo mangaka. Meaning, this oblivious and clueless boy draws romance manga for a living.Chiyo is quickly drawn into his world as his assistant, all while still trying to express her (extremely devoted) feelings to someone who just doesn't quite get it. Slowly the cast of characters grows, setting up one of the most amusing casts to the point that picking a favorite is almost impossible to do. This is a 4-komi style manga, which is more similar to the American Sunday Comic then the typical Japanese manga storyline. But it really works for this series. It is a comedy through and through and I can't wait for volume 2.

I absolutely love Monthly Girls Nozaki-Kun
I absolutely love Monthly Girls Nozaki-Kun. I'm up to date on all the scanlations and when I saw it was being published I ordered my copy. I will try not to leave any spoilers about future story lines because I think this whole series is an experience that anyone who loves comedy, shounen, shoujo or slice of life should have. I will say that for people looking for a pure shoujo, this is not for you. While it has some shoujo elements and we hope that Nozaki and Sakura will get together, this is more of a slice of life, comedy manga with an ensemble cast that has a lot of chemistry with each other. This volume introduces us to the central characters and sets the tone for the series as a whole. It is 4-koma style comedy manga that has characters that fit the traditional stereotypes but are so unique and weird that they are all interesting in their own rights. The art is clean and cute and characters are easily identifiable (honestly sometimes when I read other shoujo mangas I cannot remember the side characters cos the drawings and personalities are so similar). I you haven't watched the anime, you should!
