Best Jollof Seasoning
The media could not be loaded. Anyone who says this seasoning isnt flavorful either has no taste buds or just isn't honest. Its bursting with amazing flavor. So I am not Nigerian, but tasting this rice authentically made by Nigerian people I fell in love with this dish. I tried to make it in the past myself using youtube tutorials etc and never quite got the authentic flavor. I decided to purchase this seasoning after seeing the amazing review. I was a bit skeptical because it said it contained honey... however after making my rice using this seasoning, I saw just how that honey balanced the otehr spices. Anyway, I did tweak it, I blended tomato paste and fresh tomatoes with a red pepper (I make my own tomato paste, search the method on YouTube) I sautéed red onions, then added the tomato blend and this jollof seasoning and a bay leaf, I also added her Cameroon pepper seasoning because I love spicy, I also added a shrimp stock cube and cooked up the tomatoes, added the rice and make it slow cook. It is the most Perfect authentic tasting Jollof! Highly recommend.

Great Jollof Rice Taste... with some tweaks
My family is Nigerian (I was born and raised in America) and This is a great jollof rice seasoning to use with their one pot simmer sauce or with your own tomato stew recipe. The size is great and the price is reasonable. This review is only for jollof rice because I haven’t tried other recipes with this. I have tried this sauce with jasmine, basmati, and parboiled riceNow I do tweak the recipe a bit: After making my rice, I get a pot and add some vegetable oil to the pot (about 2 tablespoons per 2 cups of rice) and stir fry some diced onions (about 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup of diced onion per 2 cups of rice) on medium heat. Then after my onions are soft and a bit translucent, I add the cooked rice to the pot and stir so that the onions are well incorporated. Then I add the one pot simmer sauce and jollof rice (per recipe on product) as well as 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 2 teaspoons Nigerian or Jamaican curry powder, 2 teaspoons Knorr chicken bouillon seasoning, 2 teaspoons of dried thyme leaves, and 2 teaspoons red chili flakes (or 1/2 blended habanero pepper for spicyness) and stir rice. Add more seasoning to taste (I start with 2 teaspoons each but may add more). An optional step I do is add 2 teaspoons of liquid smoke to the jollof after the seasoning to give it that authentic smoky jollof flavor. I let the sauce simmer on medium low for a few minutes (about 5) then the jollof rice is done!Overall, my family and I really enjoy this product and I have purchased a package of seasoning for my parents as well.Edit (3/6/22): iya foods has discontinued their simmer sauce a few years back. I now use Nerrido tomato stew.

Excellent Introduction to Jollof
Was wary about whether this would taste anywhere close to actual jollof spices but it does. Spicy and tangy without scalding your mouth and the taste is delicious on meats too. A good purchase.

Generally a great addition
I’ve been buying this seasoning for a couple of years now but this last batch did not meet the usual standards. Mix was a little gritty, and my pot of jellof came out with a gritty/ sandy bite with each spoonful. Very disappointing not to mention embarrassing! Please do better Q.C.

Good spicy mix to punch up boring rice
Good spice mix. Pretty spicy so use sparingly a first. Adds a good hit of flavor to boring rice. Will buy again although it will be a while since this package has a very generous amount of product for the price

Flavor
Very good flavor! Not too spicy but has a lot of heat! Tune the heat down without losing the spices and this would be perfect!
