Stolen: The True Story of a Sex Trafficking Survivor

Good read
Very good read and it provides another perspective on human trafficking instead of what odd publicly known. I work in the lodging industry and am trained in the subject but even this book provided more info than I was aware of

A survivor witnessing for Christ - one person's story of faith
This book is beautifully written by a trafficking survivor who is primarily witnessing for Christ. If you were looking to better understand trafficking or its effects, this might be a disappointment. While this latter goal was my primary interest and I generally dislike evangelism, the author is not the least bit "preachy". The story reads as a heart-felt and earnest experience of God's love through extreme trials and tribulations. It's authenticity makes it a worthwhile read--regardless of your religious orientation--and the author's story offers hope to other survivors. Also, by centering the story on God, the author provides survivors with the possibility that they are lovable and loved despite living an experience that teaches them they are not. While the path out of trafficking may not necessarily require redemption through faith, the author's story is intimate and inspiring.

Powerful and tragic personal account of a life of abuse and child trafficking, but not what I expected
The author's story is a tragic, heart wrenching one. She repeatedly falls into sex trafficking after growing up in a verbally, physically, and sexually abusive home. Then as an adult, she finds herself surviving an abusive situation once more in her 20+ year marriage. Thankfully, she manages to escape and survive each of these. The story was suspenseful, but often felt the narration was emotionally removed. This only demonstrated further, in my mind, how deeply traumatized the author has been by these events. I mean this not as a criticism: but it seems like a lifetime of work she is still enduring to realize her self-worth, and that she need not feel shame. I hope this journey to healing continues and the work she is doing to heal other survivors is so important. The author is a resilient, brilliant woman. It's hard to critique a book that is so personal and so powerful for the author. I have no criticism of the author's story, or how she chose to heal. I will say if you are a person easily turned off by Christianity, this is not a book for you. About 3/4 of the way through the book it started to read less of a powerful story of healing and more of a selling point for Christianity. She works in ministry now and the work she does is critically important--but I have to say it was really unsettling to read about her thinly veiled homophobia (which, again, is hard to criticize knowing how deeply traumatized she has been and how much Christianity has been central to healing).

Knowledge is power...
This story is so amazing! How a young girl can go through the life the way she did and end up earning a PhD. It just goes to show you, God never forsakes and constantly protects his flock. Nothing stops His plan for each of us!In the U.S. alone, 300,000 children are forced into sexual slavery a year!! Their ages are as young as 8. This modern day slavery needs to be stopped. We need stricter jail time for the men who will pay thousands of dollars to have an 8 year old virgin. If you stop the demand, you stop the pimps and down to the trafficked child. All states do not support the Safe Harbor Act established in 2013. If your state doesn't, and you want this stopped, write to your Governor today.Katariina has her own website and organization where she is applying her experience and knowledge to get out on the streets and find these victims and providing a safe shelter. I am part of a Christian based organization in my city and we just opened a safe shelter in Oct. Sadly, we only have 6 beds and there is a waiting list.Recruiters are constantly riding the streets and hanging out at McDonalds, the mall....looking for vulnerable children to persuade into this horrific crime. Yes, it's in your community!! They win their trust by giving them attention, professing their love, buying them gifts, allowing them to live in a nice place...only to throw them to the streets later. Sports events? They bus them in and they may have to perform up to 25 sexual acts per day. If they don't, they get no food or water and get chained up or locked in closets. Keep your daughters close and show them love and attention. If not, there is always someone else who will.....

The victim easily falls into the grooming process before they find themselves ...
I just devoured this book that is written by a former victim of the American sex slave trade. It was a personal tale of all the things I've been learning about how the leaders send trustworthy (often girls) to victims that display a desire to be complemented. (That's a lot of people). They go and establish a relationship where the illusion of care and provision are extended while trust is gained over a period of time. The victim easily falls into the grooming process before they find themselves hooked and disoriented. In addition to being palatable but clear about how it was to be a victim, this Christian book also includes realistic truths about BPD abuse. It touches on how churches (for the most part) lack of awareness and resources for how to care for members who are abused. As many of us know when people finally admit their reality the care they often gets is "just submit more, have more sex, show more respect..."The author was like many abused women seeking to follow God who was told "You aren't submitting enough to your husband, that's why this is happening." Men hear to love their abusive wives as their reality is dismissed behind the facade of a BPD woman. The author doesn't slander her husband but you see his narcissistic disorder as he files for child support and is granted the family house. The husband manipulates her when he brings their son to the restraining order hearing. Many of you understand this wicked deception and how difficult it is for people to believe your reality.Additionally she illustrates how dancers are often victims, something near to my heart.

Preachy, bigoted, delusional.
Obsessed with god, homophobic, fairly racist and clearly, at least, greatly embellished. If you'd like to read a dreary account of one woman's "words from god" this is for you. If you're not interested in closeted evangelising, I'd advise you to avoid.
