This book inspired me. It inspired me to rise up and not only tell my story, in all the mess that it is but to proclaim the freedom that is so readily available and very much possible to all who are willing to get well. Coming to that place of pooping our pants and walking around smelling like yesterday's egg salad sandwich for 10 days ain't got nothing on the fresh aroma of a New Life that awaits us! Thank you to all of the contributors of this book. Thank you for expressing the realness and passion that is within you. Thank you for the 'Hope Shot' and sharing the solution! Much Love and Freedom to you all!

I thought this book was very informative. I am the parent of a Heroine addict and by reading this book I feel I am better prepared to help my son with his cold turkey detox he is planning on starting tomorrow.

This book definitely keeps it real!
First and foremost, as an addiction professional, I appreciated that the author and contributors were very upfront about the fact that they are not medical doctors and that the information in the book is based upon personal experience and opinion. This was reiterated multiple times throughout the book. Additionally, at no point did the author or contributors say that their way of getting clean was the correct way, which goes along with my motto…“there is no right way to recover.” As a person in long-term recovery from opiate addiction, I appreciated the “realness” of this book. I have read multiple other books, articles etc. on opiate detox over the years and this was by far the most accurate in terms of what to expect both physically and mentally. Nothing was watered down, or on the flip side, overdone. It was simply the truth. Opiate detox can be a lonely and scary experience (to say the least) and the author and contributors help to “normalize” this experience. By “normalize” I mean that they convey the message that although detox can be brutal, what the reader is experiencing is what others before them have gone through (and have overcome.) The reader is blatantly told what to expect at the worst, which makes the promises of “you can get through this” that much more conceivable. The only thing that I would change about this book is that it wasn’t written years ago, as I wish that I could have read it during my own detox episodes.

Resourceful and useful guide on getting through Opiate withdrawl
Loved this book and guide. It was exactly the type of resources I would have needed 6 years ago when I was going through opiate withdraw, after being prescribed pain-killers. Very useful and I do hope it reaches the hands of people who are in need. I understand that not everyone can afford, or has the insurance to cover a medically-supervised detox, but I do wish that everyone who wants to quit opiates could have this resource guide. Encouraging, educational, and the stories shine light on the fact that you can get through withdrawal and you can stop using these substances. Highly recommend! Great work.

Eye Opening, Real and So Very Important!
This is such an eye opener and important read for those wanting to detox, family members of those in or about to go through detox. There is no benefit to NOT know what is coming. The raw authenticity of the experiences coupled with the UPFRONT disclosure that there is more than one way to detox, that the Authors are not advocating their way but simply relaying what their experience is super powerful. I hope that this not only helps those in addiction but also wakes up a nation to the fact that opiate abuse is increasing not decreasing and that people need help and that one size does not fit all. Fantastic, FAST read.

A great resource
Great book! I have been involved in the field of addiction for many years now and wish I had had such open and honest information way back when. Aside from real life stories that eliminate the unknown of what to expect when detoxing from opiates, it offers hope with first hand examples of people that have made it out of the darkness of addiction. A great resource for anyone (including family members) that want information on the detox process.

This is a GREAT book written by people who have "been there
This is a GREAT book written by people who have "been there, done that". There's no better advice than personal experience when you're heading into cold turkey detox. I wish I had this book when I went through my own detox.
