In 1988 "Our Story" caused a sensation. The bestselling memoirs of Reg and Ron Kray led to the Peter Medak film, "The Krays", and confirmed the potency of the Kray legend. Ron Kray was, if not a silent partner in that book, a more shadowy presence than that of Reg. In this book he fills in the gaps - giving his unique version of the murders of Jack, "The Hat" McVitie and George Comell, describing his bisexuality and his marriage in Broadmoor, and clarifying many of the misconceptions about the years when he and Reg ruled the London underworld, shot enemies at will and simultaneously socialised with some of the most glittering politicians, celebrities and hostesses of the time. He also tells of life in Broadmoor - not a prison, he stresses, but a hospital. The daily routines, the drugs he must take to keep his equilibrium, his marriage there, his telepathic union with Reg, far away in Lewes jail and his hopes for the future, are all described. dull chapter about the history of Broadmoor
The voice seems authentic, and that's about the only interesting aspect of the book. His life in the limelight was brief indeed; so brief, that aside from some childhood details, the brothers' short stint as London club/gang lords in the 60's,and of course, his version of the murders and trial (with ample whinging about how all the other bottom-feeding book- writing co-criminals got the details wrong) he has to add gobs of filler. His "story" is padded out with an entire chapter of his wife Kate's story (a chatty, self-serving "bio", written in the first person, by the woman herself), chapters about life inside and finally a long, dull chapter about the history of Broadmoor! To get a perspective, figure it out like this: the man was born in 1933, convicted and imprisoned in 1968. This bio was published in 1993 (Ron Kray died 2 years later) so, aside from a few reminiscences from the glory days, what is there really to write about? A dull life in prison, brightened up by visits from a bubbly young wife and a little light research into the history of the institution that is his home. You might as well feel sorry for the bloke; his "legend" is a sad and hollow one.

One Of The Best Kray Books
This was Ron Kray's only book, though he did co-write Our Story with his brother Reggie. It was co-written with Fred Dinenage and was originally published in 1993.I read it many years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a great book, very enjoyable and hard to put down once you have started it. It was good to read about events from Ron's perspective for a change. as Reggie wrote more books about them than he did. Although he does mention their past activities and the trial, the book does largely focus on his time spent in Broadmoor, including what everyday life is like there, the history of Broadmoor and some of its more notable patients. I found this part of the book especially fascinating, as I have always had an interest in the place. It was the first time that I got to read about Broadmoor in a more detailed and in-depth way, which is why I enjoyed it so much.Although Fred Dinenage did co-write the book with Ron, it does make you wonder how much of the book and its words were actually from Ron himself. Neither of the Krays were gifted readers or writers, allegedly, so this does cast some doubt over the book's authenticity. However, it was still an interesting read and I was gripped all the way through the book. It was just a pity that Ron was too ill to write any more books before his death in 1995. I give it the full five stars. This book may be out of print and may be quite hard to find now, though, but it is worth reading if you are interested in the Krays and if you can get hold of a copy. It may not be possible to obtain a new copy of the book now, though.

A fantastic read
Very good and an interesting book, I really enjoyed it. It's a great insight into Ronnie Kray way of thinking. He takes you back to the beginning of his life, the rise and the fall of the Twins, and talks about his illness. Every page is filled with nostalgia, humour and fine accounts of his relationships in the 50's and 60's. I couldn't put this book away. Well done. RIP Ron.

Definitive Ron Kray book
Very, very interesting read. After reading most of the autobiographies the Kray twins have written and contributed too, you really get to read between the lines as to what is true and what is false.A few parts of this book can be found in 'Our Story' by Ron and Reg Kray.Would recommend to anyone interested in the Krays story.

Interesting read
Some stuff in here I hadn't read before about the early years and the run ins with some Maltese gangs. The history of Broadmoor and the management of the criminally insane over the years is also quite fascinating.
