Don't be afraid to buy used. This is a used lens in perfect condition. Great price too. Everything works. Focus, VR, Zoom and it's quick and sharp.

nice glass, but cheaply made! Stay Away from Ricks Radical Hobby Depot!
I received this lens broken the zoom would not work, after some research i found out it is common with this lens. The optical quality of the glass was quite good though. Also i would Avoid buying from Ricks Radical Hobby Depot as he was dishonest and tried to deny receiving the broken lens back while i had proof from UPS that he did. Then he ignored my messages and tried to keep my money and the lens. Luckily Amazon itself refunded me! Buyers Beware!

My most used lens. I think it's very good.
First some reviewers have said that it is plastic mount. The bottom of the lens is plastic but the mount itself where it touches the camera is blackend aluminum. I have used this lens on a Nikon D200, D300 and currently on a Nikon D7100. It has the field of view of about 45-450 mm lens on the DX cameras. I have been using this lens for 5-6 years. It is reported that the AF is slow, well I have made bird photos with the D300. I have used it in very dusty conditions. Lab tests show that this lens has some distortion and is sharp enough for digital displays and 8x10 prints. I have used this mainly for landscape and close ups, I am pleased with the results. All in all, it's a good, cheap lens.
