EltaMD UV Clear Face Sunscreen with Zinc Oxide, Oil-Free, SPF 46 and SPF 50

I love it. I would say I have combination skin..I get greasy around my nose and sometimes forehead & chin. With this sunscreen I have been getting less greasy also I love the texture it’s not heavy but it’s not like watery light for me personally if that makes sense. I do have a medium skin tone with warm olive undertones and when I apply it it does seem to make me a bit grayish but you’ve just got to blend it well which might be a bit of a hassle for some people but I don’t mind. (For reference I use shade sand in Too faced) Other than that, It’s a great sunscreen, my skin looks great , but I also don’t struggle with breakouts maybe like once every 4-5 months, but it says great for those who are skin prone to acne. Also anyone with skin like mine is looking for a good skincare routine the garnier hyloronic acid+aloe miceller water all in one replump, la roche posay normal to oily toleriane cleanser, and the ELLO hydration boosting toner and emulsion (the ello and garnier products are for all skin)

I’m 52 and never wore sunscreen. About a year ago, I noticed some discoloration on my upper cheeks. I asked my dermatologist what I could do about it. He said that it was melasma from sun damage. He sold me a cream that contained hydroquinone and recommended EltaMD Tinted 46. So, I bought some.EltaMD seemed very expensive at the time. So, I bought a big bottle of another brand with a pump on it and used it every morning like lotion. Quick and easy. But, I could feel that I was absorbing what I learned were chemicals (I didn’t know the difference in physical and chemical sunscreen at the time).So, then I got into a rather obsessive series of chats with ChatGPT about chemical sunscreen (for months). Most chemical sunscreens in the U.S. use the same four ingredients. These ingredients do absorb into the skin and some impact hormones.So, I bought Zinc Oxide /Titanium Dioxide sunscreens. But, they literally turn your face blue. OK for the beach. But, you can’t wear it to work. People think you are low on oxygen and are dying. Definitely not worth the distracting conversations—especially if you’ve lost a bunch of weight taking a GLP-1.As I said, I became obsessed with this subject and know all of the chemicals used in the U.S and Europe along with associated target wavelengths (I didn’t look too much into Asian sunscreens). But, I’ll say that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is really in the way with chemical sunscreens. The approval process is so expensive, the sunscreen companies don’t go through the approval process in the U.S.But, the Europeans have a lot of options. And they are very good options. Particle size, and some other characteristics, ensure that they don’t absorb into the skin, are reef safe, and don’t degrade quickly in sunlight. So, you don’t have to apply them every two hours if you are in an office and not sweating (because that’s the other thing—I’m not getting caught in the restroom mirror, or with a compact mirror, applying sunscreen at work).So, I ordered a lot of different European sunscreens to be shipped directly from Europe. Why so many? I learned that blue light is what causes melasma. And there are a couple of ingredients (Mexoryl 400 and TriAsorB) that stop blue light along with UVA and UVB. But they made my face shiny (like, your face looks like it is slathered in olive oil). I bought matte versions that were still shiny. Or they had perfume in them—very floral feminine scents (God knows I don’t want to show up at work smelling like a girl—or a Romeo fresh from a romp either). Some of the bottles were comically small (fits in the front pocket of your slacks without bulging) for exhorbatant prices that were exacerbated by high shipping costs. But, mostly, they are oily.So, I bought a great U.S. zinc oxide one that is very mattifying. Worked perfect… almost. The problem was that two layers of sunscreen (I didn’t want to give up the blue light protection) with a mattifier absorbing so much oil made it look like I was wearing foundation—and turned my face blue. I tried a lower zinc oxide spf concentration. Still blue. Then I got tinted versions (the first one was too dark and made me look like I was drunk). And, that much sunscreen makes you feel like you are wearing a mask and you can’t wait to wash it off at the end of the day.After washing, my face would be dry (don’t use Castile soap on your face). So, I bought moisturizers (several because ChatGPT gave me a whole regimen on a Word doc so I could tape it to my mirror). Some made my face oily. Some made my face sting (even the simple volcano water and hyaluronic acid stung). For the love of God! So, ChatGPT tells me that my barrier is compromised. So, I buy a bunch of mild cleansers. Cream to foam is not strong enough to remove caked on sunscreen. Squalene oil emulsifier works great. But, this was all too much.So, this morning I saw, among a bathroom sink full of so many products it puts my wife’s side of the sink to shame (she’s very unhappy with this obsession by the way. She says I look like a girl putting on make up (rubycell sponges are the best in case you are looking for that kind of thing))….Well, to make a long story short, I saw an old bottle of EltaMD 46. Very smooth application (I think that it is the Octinoxate that creates the perfect viscosity). It feels like I have nothing on my face. That’s a great feeling. No white cast or blue face. The tint does not seem to wear off as easily on things like a white collar or the inside of a hat (probably because it spreads so well you don’t have to use a lot. I’ve purchased a dozen hats to protect me from the sun too. But that’s a whole n’other story).The bottom line is that my dermatologist was right. And, I could have financed a few years worth of EltaMD 46 purchases if I hadn’t gone down the European rabbit hole.Do not buy the EltaMD 50! It does not spread well.One more thing. The iron oxide used in the tint blocks blue light that causes melasma! Who would have guessed. I didn’t notice that message the first time I was reading the bottle label.Just buy the EltaMD 46. Trust me. It’s the best in every way.

Actually works with moisturizer and foundation! First, as many have said, this is the ONLY sunscreen I have ever liked for my face. It's not oily, doesn't burn my sensitive skin, and doesn't burn my eyes. Second, some people have said that it "pills" when they use it with moisturizer and/or foundation, so I hope this helps someone. After doing AI research, I found there are reasons for that -- basically, the ingredients are not compatible / don't work well together. With research, I found brands that do work together, so you probably can, too! I'm using LRP moisturizer. It and the Elta MD both contain niacinamide, and it is even helping to calm my rosacea! I'm using MK foundation, but again, there are probably some other brands that work if you ask the research questions. Of course I let it sit a few minutes in between moisturizer, EltaMD, and foundation, pat/gently rub on each layer, and then -- no pilling/flaking! Yes, this product IS expensive, but it has totally improved my skin, and I will keep using it.

It blends in beautifully without leaving a noticeable white cast, and I love that it’s made for blemish-prone and oily skin.It also wears really well under makeup and doesn’t make my face feel clogged or overly shiny throughout the day. The added niacinamide is a huge plus, and I love knowing I’m getting SPF 50 protection while also using something that feels like skincare. Definitely one I’ll continue repurchasing!

Broad spectrum coverage was a must, and I wanted something I’d actually use consistently.After using it daily, a few things stand out:* Lightweight and non-greasy. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave that heavy sunscreen feel.* Blends in cleanly. No white cast, and it doesn’t get stuck in facial hair. I keep very short stubble and a lot of sunscreens tend to clump or show — this one doesn’t.* Easy to use every day. Sits well on skin and layers without any issues.From a practical standpoint, this is the type of product you’ll actually stick with, which matters more than anything for daily SPF.Only minor consideration is price relative to basic drugstore options, but the texture and usability are noticeably better.Overall, if you’re looking for a daily sunscreen that doesn’t feel like sunscreen and works well with short facial hair, this is a strong option.

This is hands down one of the best face sunscreens I’ve used. It feels lightweight, goes on smoothly, and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or heavy. I also really appreciate that it doesn’t leave that obvious white cast that some mineral sunscreens can.It sits really well under makeup, but I also wear it on its own. My skin feels comfortable throughout the day, and I don’t feel like I’m wearing a thick layer of sunscreen on my face.It is definitely more expensive than some drugstore options, but for me, the quality makes it worth it. This is one of those products I’m happy to spend a little more on because I actually enjoy using it every day.

I have tried dozens of sunscreens and this the one I have chosen to stick with. I have sensitive, reactive, mature skin. Over the years I have struggled to find a sunscreen that didn't break me out, sting, or give me a rash. And if that wasn't asking enough, I wanted something that felt light and good on my face. My dermatologist gave me several samples of sunscreen and this is was the one I fell in love with. It is, however, not a budget-freindly sunsceen. But I value wearing sunscreen to prevent skin cancers and premature aging, and I like this enough, that I swapped out or stopped using several other products to use those funds for this sunscreen. That's how much I like this stuff.

I am amazed! If you are like me and have oily skin, like legitimately oily skin, then this is what you're looking for.I'm the girl that always has shine from my oily skin.. constantly blotting my face with rice paper throughout the day. It's ridiculous but it is what it is. So as you can imagine, wearing facial sunscreen is a nightmare for me.THIS IS AMAZING! Not only did I not get more oily from this sunscreen, but I'm not even oily at all today. I rode my horse outside in the arena, sweat, AND NO OIL!Today was the first day using EltaMD so of it changes, I'll edit my post but as of right now, I'm so excited. My face feels soft, no shine, no white build up, no sunburn, just all goodness.TINT COLORING... I will say that the tint was very minimal so if you're looking for coverage with the tint, I wouldn't expect it to cover sun spots, etc.The next true test will be on my upcoming vacation to the humid and hot weather in Dominican Republic.

This has been my sunscreen for the past 2 years. I use this alone with no foundation. My skin is naturally very oily. This does not feel heavy and my skin loves it. Yes it is pricey but worth it. I have never found anything close to this product.
