What's Your Evidence?: Engaging K-5 Children in Constructing Explanations in Science

This is an excellent resource for the science practice of "engaging in argument with evidence" that is outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards. This book comes with a DVD of classroom video to show you how you implement the Claims-Evidence-Reasoning framework in your classroom. The many example lessons and unit explain how to plan lessons, supporting students in how to talk and write in a scientific manner, integrating science with other subjects like English-Language Arts and how to design assessment tasks and constructing rubrics.I recommend this book for elementary teachers who want their students to think critically and want to go beyond predictions and collecting data. This thoroughly addresses the new Next Generation Science Standards and how to build a positive and powerful learning environment in the classroom.This is also a nice resource for instructors of elementary science methods who work with preservice teachers. I use it with my students and they learn a lot when they teach their science lessons in a local school. This gets at the reasons for planning engaging science lessons and how to have success in the classroom. I am very pleased with the success that my students are having.

This is an absolutely fantastic book about using CER (claims, evidence, reasoning) in the K-5 classroom. If you want to find a better way to approach students' response to inquiry based instruction in the classroom, then this is the book for you. It has a wealth of knowledge on how teachers should set up their classrooms and students for success when it comes to explaining the reasoning behind their thinking in Science. One of my favorite books for elementary science teachers. Highly recommend!

honestly a very awesome book if you are going into any kind of education degree. gives you some good ideas on how to ask questions that will make sense to the kids and help guide them when they get lost.

Good content, but I cannot get the DVD to work with my MacBook Pro. I purchased this for the videos, so it's a real disappointment.

Great book for any science teacher. Helps you learn how to teach students to think like a scientist. Something that is missing from most school bought curriculum
