What temperature does the heating plate reach underneath?

The plate produces gentle radiant warmth similar to a mother hen. The exact temperature under the plate varies depending on the height setting and room temperature, allowing chicks to regulate their own comfort by moving closer or farther away.

Does this brooder plate require a thermostat or temperature controller?

No thermostat is required. The plate provides constant radiant warmth while chicks regulate their body temperature naturally by moving closer or farther underneath the plate, just as they would under a mother hen.

What size brooder works best with the 12×12 heating plate?

For the 12x12 heating plate we recommend RentACoop’s Big Red Barn so chicks have space to move in and out from under the plate as they regulate their temperature.

Can this brooder plate be used in a cardboard brooder box?

Because the plate uses low-watt radiant heat (22W) instead of an exposed heat bulb, it does not have the fire risk of heat lamps and can safely be used in many brooder setups when used according to instructions.

Will chicks naturally go under the heating plate for warmth?

Yes. Chicks instinctively seek warmth and will quickly learn to rest underneath the plate, similar to how they gather under a mother hen. The adjustable height allows them to comfortably move under it as they grow.
