It brings the water up to the selected temperature pretty quickly, which also reduces the noise. At first, the noise is very low, then it gets louder as the water gets closer to temperature. I just filled it to max with cold filtered water and it took about 5 minutes to hit 200 degrees and only about 3 of that was "noisy," but I could still have a phone conversation a few feet away with no issues. **Q: Have you had a problem with the lettering disappearing from the temperature control and start buttons? The kettle was fused to the base and there were black burn marks on my countertop. One down the handle - there is what seems to be a piece of white plastic cover what may cover internally screw that holds bottom of handle, and the other next to nuzzle, a piece around filter that water gets poured outside - the same design I found in my Costco's Hamilton Beach. I'd still consider it a 'minimal impact'(or marginal)... Keep also in mind there are plastics out there with no ''carcinogenic impact'' when in contact with water... It could be down there some kind of silicon as well as can't reach down there. The upper one above the filter that seats in nozzle is very slim.
