Review: Amazing Kettle! - This kettle is everything you could want! I use it mostly for french press coffee, but my guests have used it for various kinds of tea, instant oatmeal, or hot chocolate with great success. I did a lot of research on these kettles, and I found that the one thing to avoid was kettles with plastic insides. Every single one with plastic innards had comments about plastic taste in the water. Stainless and glass interiors didn't have this problem, but glass was more susceptable to scale buildup. So I went with stainless. There aren't many of these kettles with stainless insides, and the ones there are are generally more expensive. I looked at the Breville and some others, but they were simply too much money. This one, while not cheap, offered a great feature set, accurate temperatures, stainless interior, good controls, unobstrusive base, and pretty nice aesthetics. The kettle is easy to fill, solidly built, and heats water very fast. It finishes its heat cycle with an authoritative BEEP that I can hear from the next room as I watch Sports Center. Another bonus is that even once it has reached temperature, it will keep the water at that temperature for up to 30 minutes, so if I'm busy doing something else, my kettle can wait until I get there, and my water isn't too cold or too hot! The most important thing about a good cup of french press coffee, besides the beans, is the temperature of the water. The base is very minimal and you don't even notice it when the kettle is sitting on it, it looks like one piece of the kettle. The controls are easy to reach while holding the kettle by the handle, and the little LED light on the water level indicator is bright and helps you see the water level in a dimly lit early morning kitchen. It also automatically shuts off after a bit if the kettle heat has been turned off. The kettle will turn off automatically after a certain amount of time, but it also is easy to turn off once you've poured out your needed water by pressing the "keep warm" button again. Cleaning is as easy as making a water/white vinegar mixture and letting the kettle boil for 10-15 minutes, then rinsing it out a few times. This removes lime scale deposits and calcification. For the build quality, looks, features, and performance, I can't rate this kettle high enough! Look no further!
Review: Terrific Tea -- two years and counting - UPDATE: October 30, 2017 Well, almost exactly 5 years to the day I bought it, my Cuisinart electric tea kettle finally bit the dust. In the last couple of months, it seems to have been catching water in the base area, and then when I'd pour hot water into a mug, some water would leak out the bottom of the pitcher from the seam where the base meets the sidewall. I wasn't sure if it was from boiling over because I filled it too high, or if something had cracked on the inside where I couldn't see. Finally today, when I tried to get it to operate, it warmed slightly but then shut itself off and wouldn't boil the water. I am assuming that this is a protection mechanism probably to help me avoid a fire. Regardless, I was very happy with this product, I used it multiple times each day when I was home, and I enjoyed the multiple temperature options. I would periodically use a sharpie marker to indicate the temp gauges on the handle for guests who might use it because the printing had long ago worn off from simple use. UPDATE: December 2014 I have been using this tea kettle for two years, several times (5?) each day, practically every day. It's shows no sign of burning out, and it still looks great. The printing has worn away from almost all of the buttons, but as I use this so often, I have all the temperature settings memorized. However, I can see that being something worth fixing going forward. (= ******************* ORIGINAL REVIEW: As of this writing (June 2013), I have been using this tea kettle for 7 months, every day, several times a day, save for a few weeks away here and there. I drink tea all day long, and I work from home. I was a tad leery before making this purchase because some people had complained about the tea kettle burning out. Thus far, I have not had this issue at all. I LOVE that I can set the relevant temperature for the tea I want to brew. Mostly I brew black teas in the morning, but I then switch to milder ones as the day turns later. It didn't take long for the "boil" (hottest) button to become illegible, which is about the only "bad" thing I have to say about this product. I'm not sure how I could have prevented the printing from wearing away from the most-used buttons, other than using some kind of plastic glove, but other than that, I am extremely pleased with this product. I was initially intrigued about the "warm" button, which promised to keep the water at the proper temp for 30 minutes, which means that it will start heating it up again all by itself. I didn't actually like that, and so I now never have that function selected. I sometimes take longer than 30 minutes to drink a large cup, and when I go back, it's quick enough to simply reheat the water again anyway, so instead of wearing out the heating element, I'd rather just do that manually myself. It's easy to clean, it looks sleek, I love the illuminated buttons, and it's a lot nicer than the several basic versions of electronic tea kettles I'd had in the past in Germany. I will never go back to a traditional tea pot on the stove. These are so much faster to heat up, and now with the precise temperature controls, it almost seems barbaric to think back to when I used one!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: noise**
A: Not near as noisy as others I've used/heard. It brings the water up to the selected temperature pretty quickly, which also reduces the noise. At first, the noise is very low, then it gets louder as the water gets closer to temperature. I just filled it to max with cold filtered water and it took about 5 minutes to hit 200 degrees and only about 3 of that was "noisy," but I could still have a phone conversation a few feet away with no issues.

**Q: Have you had a problem with the lettering disappearing from the temperature control and start buttons? I was very disappointed to see this happen after only a few months.**
A: Yes, but that was the least of my problems. THIS IS A FIRE HAZZARD!!!! I purchased mine in Jan 2013. It is now May of 2014. On walking thru my kitchen I smelled something that smelled like electrical wire burning. After investigating and shutting off all the breakers to my kitchen, I discovered that my kettle had basically burned up. The kettle was fused to the base and there were black burn marks on my countertop. (I should have noticed this immediately, but my countertops are black granite) I thank God that I was home when this happened and that it didnt happen in the middle of the night and burn our house down with us in it!

**Q: Is there any plastic at all, in contact with the tea water?**
A: It seems there are 2 places... One down the handle - there is what seems to be a piece of white plastic cover what may cover internally screw that holds bottom of handle, and the other next to nuzzle, a piece around filter that water gets poured outside - the same design I found in my Costco's Hamilton Beach. I'd still consider it a 'minimal impact'(or marginal)... Keep also in mind there are plastics out there with no ''carcinogenic impact'' when in contact with water... It could be down there some kind of silicon as well as can't reach down there. The upper one above the filter that seats in nozzle is very slim. I'd not worry about them anyway for this amount exposed. (if you think cancer stuff. For durability, I bet it's just fine - minimum amount (.01%??)...

**Q: Where is this product manufactured?**
A: The California warning is on everything in California, including restaurants as you enter. The warning appears to reference the electric cord attached to the base. The same warning is on all the electric pots. None of the other warnings apply to this product.
"Electrical Cords
California requires the following notice:
WARNING: The wires of this product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling. "
CA government warns us about the hazards inside the car also. I still drive a car.
"Motor Vehicles
California requires the following notice:
WARNING: Motor vehicles contain fuel, oils and fluids, battery posts, terminals and related accessories which contain lead and lead compounds and other chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm. These chemicals are found in vehicles, vehicle parts and accessories, both new and as replacements. When being serviced, these vehicles generate used oil, waste fluids, grease, fumes and particulates, all known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and reproductive harm. "
