Isn't that "gel" just petroleum Jelly? Why is it so expensive?

Thank you for your question. BugSnub Insect Blocking Gel is not petroleum jelly. In side by side tests, ants were able to cross petroleum jelly, but they couldn’t cross BugSnub Gel. Bugsnub Gel is more viscous (more sticky/goopy) and it’s waterproof (and it has a light green hue). It also has a much higher melting point, so it stays effective and in place in very hot weather. Petroleum jelly, on the other hand, will melt and run off at about body temperature.

Those who have been using this tray for a while, what do you think about it? Does it really work?

Yes, it does. My mom lives in assisted living with her little dog. After a year or so, the ants found their way to the food bowl. Since using the tray, the ants have given up. We only use the tray inside, so I don’t know about feeding outside.

how often do you hafto change the gel?

I've had BugSnub for almost four months now and haven't had to add any gel yet. It's still working good.

How do you wash the tray? Do the feet come off and go on easily? How are the attached?

The feet are designed to stay in place. They are attached to the tray with four #8-32 black stainless screws and technically could be disassembled, but we do not recommend doing so. The tray surface can be wiped down for cleaning using any of your preferred cleaning products for countertops. When it comes time to renew the BugSnub gel, we recommend thoroughly wiping out the old gel with paper towel.
